Since face masks have become a norm, most of our lipsticks have taken a backseat. Of course, no matter how much you miss your creamy red lipstick, no one wants to deal with a smeary mess once that mask comes off. It’s very impractical. TBH, we could always use a long-lasting stain or liquid lipstick but not everybody has the energy to deal with that on a daily. Besides, when you mix the summer heat with your face covering the result is extremely chapped lips. The mask tends to trap all the moisture from breathing and which in result zaps away the mouths’ natural moisture. Now you’re stuck with even drier lips! Weird right?
This means keeping our skin and lips moisturised is more important than ever, especially so if you’re naturally prone to dryness. In this case, a great lip balm can be your saviour. Plus, it totally fits in with a no-makeup makeup look for summer if or when you step out. While I can list out a million different lip balms available on the market, instead I reached out to a few of my colleagues and they revealed some of their favourite hydrating lip balms that combat dryness. So without any further ado, here they are:
1. Sakshi Kore
Her pick: Nivea, Cherry Shine Lip Care
Why she loves it: The cherry shine lip balm by Nivea has the perfect balance of moisture and glam and that’s one reason why I can never get enough of it. The super glossy finish and the rosy tint can double up as a sexy lipstick/lip gloss and I often use it like that when I’m going out or attending events. This selfie is evidence. I just love how easily it glides on and leaves my lips super soft at the end of the day!
2. Rhea Jain
Her pick: Seba Med, Lip Defence Balm
Why she loves it: The Seba Med lip balm is essential for me, given any given weather condition. Especially for someone like me who struggles with dry lips. After several trials and errors with all kinds of lip balms, this is the only one I swear by. It’s super light, stays on all day and gives my lips the nourishment it needs. It also has an SPF of 30 to protect my pout from the sun and the best part is that it’s fragrance-free! Which is great because it won’t irritate those with sensitive skin.
3. Suruchi Patwary
Her pick: The Body Shop, Strawberry Lip Butter
Why she loves it: I’ve had chappy lips for the longest time and I think this lip butter has made my lips feel the best from all the other lip balms I’ve tried to date. It leaves my lips soft and smooth, plus, the strawberry scent is absolutely delish. It’s my current favourite!
4. Alisha Fernandes
Her pick: Carmex, Original Stick
Why she loves it: So, I’m not big on balm in general but I have to have it when I’m in colder climates. It is insane how quickly my lips chap and crack and strangely the tip of my nose too! And in situations like that, no other lip balm nourishes and restores quite as Carmex does. It’s medicated too and simply magical when it comes to repairing dry chapped lips.
5. Shikha Marwah
Her pick: Burts Bees, Beeswax Lip Balm
Why she loves it: Growing up lip balms were my lipsticks. The Burt’s Bees lip balms are my absolute go-to and essential item in the humid weather of Mumbai. It’s made with all-natural and super nourishing ingredients and adds just the perfect hint of colour for my no makeup days. Plus, the best bit is that the company helps support honeybee health and growth.
6. Saania Hava
Her pick: Laniege, Lip Sleeping Mask
Why she loves it: It’s been a game-changer for my perpetually chapped lips. It’s got a subtle berry smell and a super balmy texture that deeply nourishes my lips. Even though it technically says sleeping mask, I end up using it as a lip balm and reapplying it through the day. Would highly recommend it!
7. Karishma Govil
Her pick: MAC Cosmetics, Lip Conditioner
Why she loves it: I love this balm because it maintains moisture and keeps my lips hydrated for a long time where I don’t have to constantly reapply it. Also, it makes a great base/primer for all my lipsticks.
