Last year was a sad year for the entertainment industry — both nationally and globally. We lost some real gems in the world of films and entertainment. So this year, the Oscars decided to honour their legacy with a special mention in their ‘In Memoriam’ montage.
Angela Bassett introduced the ‘In Memoriam’ segment and reflected on the difficult year we’ve had, and shared that this segment is about celebrating and remembering the artists who have left us. This list included some names from India as well.
We lost legends who had made us proud on a global stage with their impeccable work and talents. Be it actor Irrfan Khan, who gave us some impeccable performances in both Hindi and English cinema, or the renowned costume designer, Bhanu Athiya, who became the first Indian to win an Oscar won for her work in Richard Attenborough‘s Gandhi. Back in Hollywood, it was as devastating for all fans of The Blank Panther, as actor Chadwick Boseman succumbed to his battle with cancer. They also mentioned Cloris Leachman, Sean Connery, Helen McCrory, Christopher Plummer, Olivia de Havilland, Hal Holbrook, Ian Holm, George Segal, Cicely Tyson and Max von Sydow among others.
The official ‘In Memorium’ page also honoured our Indian personalities like Sushant Singh Rajput, Soumitra Chatterjee, Rishi Kapoor and Shashikala.
As for the awards, Nomadland won the Best Picture. Read the entire list of winners here.
