While trends come and go a plump pout remains popular to this day. Let’s be real, a luscious fuller lip can is super sexy, just look at bombshells like Angelina Jolie and Priyanka Chopra. Let’s not forget celebrities like Kylie Jenner who popularized the trend of faking a voluptuous pout back in 2015. There’s something special about defined, magnified lips that manages to pull an entire look together. Of course, not everyone is blessed with naturally fuller lips! And nobody needs to or want to get fillers and injectables done. But that doesn’t mean we can’t work our magic with makeup and a few tricks with what you already have in your makeup bag.
Luckily, the beauty industry has been faking big lips for the better part of forever, and most of the tricks are as easy as dabbing on a few products in strategic places. And trust me, there are subtle ways of achieving a fuller pout without going over the top. The key to this look is contrast and definition, making dark areas darker and lighter areas even lighter. Don’t worry it’s way easier than it sounds. Whether you’re a self-proclaimed lazy girl and want a quick shortcut or prefer a more detailed approach we’ve got you covered. Ready to get started? Here are 2 easy ways to enhance your natural lips for a gorgeous pout.
Method 1: The Shortcut
If you don’t have a ton of time this is a great shortcut to the more detailed technique we’ve shared below. For this method you’ll need; a cream contour stick, foundation brush, lip liner, nude lipstick and plumping lip gloss.
- Step 1: Use the contour stick to trace just outside the edge of your top and bottom lips. This will create a shadow with subtle dimension
- Step 2: With leftover foundation on your brush, just dab it over your lips 2-3 times to gently blend the contour.
- Step 3: Line your lips with a lip liner. You want to go ever so slightly outside the lines.
- Step 4: Go in with a lipstick one or two shades lighter.
- Step 5: Finally. Top of your lips with a lip plumping gloss starting from the centre and feathering outwards.
Method 2: A More Detailed Approach
If you want the full effect this detailed approach will get you fuller lips in no time. You’ll need; a cream contour, a small precise brush, foundation brush, dark nude lip liner, nude lipstick, powder highlighter and plumping lip gloss. Try using nude/natural lip colours or brown tones as it creates a more subtle fuller effect to the lips that looks more natural and realistic.
Step 1:
This is step number one and it’s so important. Always exfoliate your lips before makeup for a smooth canvas. Dry or flakey lips could make your lips look smaller than they actually are.
Step 2:
Add on a hydrating lip balm or lip mask while you do the rest of your makeup. Let the balm soak in for about five minutes before moving on to the next step. You’ll be surprised by how much plumper your lips will look when they’re hydrated.
Step 3:
Use a small precise brush loaded with a cream contour and trace the outside edge of your top and bottom lips. Slightly fill in the inner corner of your lips too. This will create some subtle dimension. Quick tip, if your lips are naturally very pigmented go over them lightly with your foundation brush to create a blank canvas before contouring.
Step 4:
Once you’re happy with the shape, use the leftover foundation on your brush just dab it over your lips to gently blend the contour.
Step 5:
Line your lips with a lip liner. Pick a lip liner that’s one-to-two shades darker than your natural lip colour, it makes the finished lip look more realistic and rich. Ever so slightly overline your lips including filling in the inner corners. Similar to the way you contoured just outside the edge of your natural lip shape. Take this time to shape your lips the way to your liking.
Step 6:
Fill in your lips with a lipstick one or two shades lighter right in the centre. Make sure you blend it with your fingers or brush to avoid harsh lines. This creates much-needed dimension and it’ll help even out your lips.
Step 7:
With a brush or your fingertips apply a touch of highlighter to the centre and cupids bow. This makes the upper lip look more curved and full while emphasizing the lip contour. At this point take the opportunity to clean up any edges if need be with a tiny concealer brush.
Step 8:
Apply a clear or nude lip gloss starting from the centre and feathering the outside edges with the tip. This help blends everything together and actually makes the lips look plumper by picking up natural light and reflecting it back.
And ta-dah you’ve done! You’ve got yourself gorgeous plump looking lips!
