As the weather gets more humid, sticky and hella’ icky, our skin seems to take as much of a hit as the rest of our body… Our water intake increases, our choice of clothing gets tweaked, so why shouldn’t our skincare routine do the same, amirite? Delhi-based dermatologist, Dr. Kiran Sethi‘s Instagram page is filled with amazing tips, solutions and information for everyone out there. So, today she’s going to spill the beans on how one can have healthy-looking skin in the summer… even if it’s like a 100 degrees outside!
Step 1: Reduce the steps & keep it simple
The more the layers and buildup of product, the more likelihood of getting those zits! So, if you were going full-on Korean with a 10-step routine, it’s time to cut it down to 3-4 steps in the morning, and 3-4 steps in the evening.
- Morning routine: Cleanse + Serum (Treat) + Moisturise (if needed) + Sunblock
- Night routine: Cleanse + Serum (Treat) + Moisturise
Step 2: Choose the right ingredients
Salicylic Acid is a BHA that will cut through the grease and cleanse within your follicles to reduce oiliness and reduce zits. Use it in a face wash, or in a mask or even in a serum as needed! I like a 2% Salicylic acid cleanser the best. Also, Niacinamide acid and Green Tea have been shown to reduce oil secretion. These ingredients are best used in a serum.
Step 3: Tick off the ingredients that make you more sun-sensitive.
So those AHA’s—just start cutting them out if you have a lot of sun exposure. Do the same with Retinols too. Focus on your antioxidants like Vitamin C, Ferulic Acid and peptides for antiaging more during this season if you have a lot of sun exposure.
Step 4: Sunblock! Sunblock! Sunblock!
Wear it indoors…Wear it outdoors… Wear it when it rains… And when you sweat but WEAR IT NO MATTER WHAT!
