Adding some much-needed colour to 2021 is the festival of Holi that will be celebrated on the 28th of this month. While many of you might be familiar with this popular festival, here is a quick recap for those who aren’t. Holi is a festival of colours and is divided into two parts. The first is known as Holika Daha and the second as Rangwali Holi. The former is celebrated on the night of a full moon to commemorate the win of good over bad. Prayers and rituals take place around a bonfire and the mood is usually joyous! Post that, the conventional Rangwali Holi is enjoyed by playing with colours and water.
For the first part of the festival, you can opt for something nice and simple. And for Rangwali Holi, go for a classic white outfit or something colourful, no rules or limits! And last but not the least, don’t forget to be careful and keep your mask on at all times.
5 outfit ideas for Holi this year:
1) Embroidered ethnic-wear
For Holika Daha, you may want to opt for semi-formal Indian wear. In this case, an embroidered suit or Indo-western ensemble is a great choice. Dress up in some beautiful, pastel colours or rich, bright hues. If you’re going for a mellow colour palette, you can add an element of colour via a scarf or dupatta in a contrasting shade. A palazzo suit, sharara set or anarkali are great options to consider. For footwear, keep it traditional with Kolhapuri chappals or stylish juttis to complement your outfit.
2) Traditional white
The evergreen colour for Holi celebrations is none other than white. Thanks to Rekha in Rang Barse for making it the ultimate colour of Holi. The hue also acts as the perfect canvas for those vibrant colours. You can also add a pop of colour to your white suit by throwing on a Bandhani dupatta. Moreover, play around by opting for suits in different styles such as a chikankari salwar suit.
3) Tie-Dye
There is nothing that can represent Holi better than tie-dye! Since the style is heavily trending at present, chances are you already own some pieces. An oversized tie-dye shirt is comfortable and looks chic when paired with a pair of lycra tights or shorts. Additionally, you can transform your tie-dye t-shirt into a front-knot crop-top and pair it with denim shorts. This will ensure you remain cool throughout the festival and avoid the stickiness that comes with full-length pants. Tie-dye is a unique way to have some fun with your outfits and wear a lot of colours!
4) Oxidized jewellery
No outfit is complete without accessories and Holi shouldn’t be an exception. But given the nature of the festival, ensure you go for something light and minimal to avoid any interruption to your Holi fun. Some silver oxidized bangles or earrings will look great with an Indo-Western, Western and even a salwar suit. If you are not playing with colours but celebrating some other way, make a statement with a statement choker, jhumkas and more.
5) Stylish shades
Want to look super chic and be safe at the same time? Enter sunnies! The energetic celebration of Holi involves a lot of powdered colours, water-splashing and more. So if you’re taking part in the fun, you need to go prepared. Keep your eyes safe and away from harmful chemicals by sporting a pair of cool shades. Alongside protecting your eyes, it will also instantly transform your look! Sassy, stylish and fabulous!
