Jinkies! 90s kids assemble because Mindy Kaling has got some fantastic news for us. The multi-talented star confirmed the happy news of her voicing one of the most popular cartoon characters in pop culture, Velma Dinkley from Scooby-Doo. Turns out Velma is getting her own show on HBO Max. On Wednesday, HBO Max announced that Mindy Kaling will be producing and voicing the lead of Velma.
The show will be an origin story of the character, a sort of tribute to her unsung and underappreciated brains. It will be an original and humourous spin on Velma’s complicated and complex past. Before Mindy, the character has been voiced by Jane The Virgin star Gina Rodriguez for the 2020 movie Scoob!, Kate Micucci has voiced the character in various projects. Hayley Kiyoko and Linda Cardellini have portrayed Velma in live-action films.
Along with Velma, HBO Max has given the green light to two other adult animated series called Clone High and Fired On Mars for a modern refresh.
We can’t wait to see this series surrounding only Velma and with a Mindy twist to it too. This one’s going to be something to look forward to for sure!
