A girl can never have too many shoes or in some cases, too many juttis! Composed primarily of leather, these beauties are delicately embroidered with thread and tastefully decorated with beads. Over time, the traditional juttis have evolved, taking a more modern and glamorous form. They’re a treat to the eye and the variety of designs available in an array of vibrant colours, have made them largely popular and must-haves in every desi wardrobe!
There’s a type for all kinds of outfits. From mirror work to sequins to floral designs and even denim—you can find them all. They look just as trendy with dresses, denim and shorts as they do with your any and all ethnic-wear. This makes them a versatile piece of footwear that you can hoard on without any guilt. However, when purchasing a pair, there are a few pointers you should keep in mind:
- The base—some pairs have a very hard sole which can be rough on your feet. Ensure you pick a pair that has a cushion base for maximum comfort.
- The material—the leather of the shoes should be soft, support your feet and not cut through your skin.
- The fit—some juttis are tighter on the toes. Select a pair that moulds perfectly according to the shape of your feet.
Ahead we show you all the ways you can style your juttis:
1) With Skirts
The beauty of juttis is how effortlessly they complement any outfit. Give it a try with a flowy midi skirt. Moreover, a midi-skirt’s length is perfect because it’ll allow you to flaunt them. For a simple day out, you can choose a pair with a graphic print. For a fancier occasion, go for a pair that has a good dose of embroidery and embellishments!
2) With Denim
There’s something quite lovely about wearing juttis with a skinny pair of jeans. If you’re unsure how to style them with denim, fret not and keep reading! Start with the basics like a white or black tee along with your favourite pair of jeans. Add a pair of poppy-hued juttis to to give the look an ethnic touch. You can also sport an all-denim look and complete it with a denim pair. When opting for a head-to-toe denim look, try to avoid heavily embellished ones. Keep it simple and elegant and go for designs featuring modest designs and prints like threadwork or a graphic print. Additionally, you can throw on a scarf or jacket in the same colour tone as your juttis to elevate it further.
3) With A Pantsuit
Didn’t think you could wear a pantsuit with juttis? You couldn’t be more wrong! Check out this bride, Sanjana Rishi, who went viral on the internet a few months for her bridal ensemble—a powder blue pantsuit. To complete her D-day look, she wore a pair of silver, embellished juttis that complemented her jewellery and her outfit. For traditional occasions such as weddings, embroidered or sequinned designs are good options to consider. They will bling up your feet and may just help you make a sartorial statement. Out of the box pairings are usually the best, don’t you agree?
4) With Indo-Western Outfits
Juttis are the perfect companion for fusion-wear as they maintain a formal vibe without going over the top. Choose a design based on the vibe you are aiming for—a printed style works for a simpler look and sequinned or embroidered if you need to dial it up. You can also spice things up by experimenting with contrasting colours and quirky patterns.
5) With Traditional Indian-Wear
Personally, when it comes to Indian attire, juttis are my go-to choice of footwear. They are comfortable, which means you can dance away all night long and they look super fashionable. For a regal look, team an ethnic pair of juttis with a beautiful saree. To this, add some classic jewellery pieces. A helpful tip would be to keep in mind the work on your outfit. If blingy, balance it out with simple juttis instead of a pair with heavy embellishments and vice versa.
We all know how important it is to be well-dressed from head-to-toe for an ethnic function. So when deciding on your footwear, opt for a formal pair of juttis. This would mean the material and finishing are more refined and the work on it is minimal and done tastefully. Moreover, when it comes to the colour palette, keep it simple with pastels or neutral hues that always look more elegant and subdued.
