You may have heard lots of people talking about transitioning their fashion and beauty routines from summer to winter as the colder season approaches. And especially for one’s skin, the change in temperature, humidity, and exposure to harsh climates, can take a toll on your dermis and epidermis. The key is to make sure you listen to your skin, understand its needs and tackle it with specific products. You don’t need anything extra other than just a few swap-outs from your current skincare routine. Here are a few tips and products to help you have hydrated and happy skincare—even in the winter!

#1. Switch to a creamy cleanser

Cleansers are the first, and perhaps the most important step in your skincare routine. It preps your skin so that you get the most from the rest of the products in your routine. It helps wash away makeup, dirt, and excess oil on the surface layer of the skin. Switch up your normal cleanser to a milk/cream-based one. And because these cleansers have a creamy texture, which not only produce a mild lather, but it helps in not stripping your skin’s protective barrier.

P.S: Look for one that’s sulphate-free.

#2. Hydrate! Hydrate! Hydrate!

Face washes sometimes tend to strip your skin of its natural moisture. A good toner helps put back the moisture into your skin right after washing your face. That’s one of the key qualities of a good toner. Hydrating the skin is an important component of your skincare regime especially during the colder months.

#3. Opt for a richer moisturiser

No matter what your skin type is, winter’s cold and dry air will take its toll… And trust me, you do not want to battle dry skin and itchiness. A good moisturiser helps lock in the moisture while improving its texture leaving the skin feeling smooth. Be sure to select a moisturiser that’s appropriate for your skin type with hydrating ingredients.

#4. Layer a serum over for that extra dewiness

I think serums are the real heroes of your skincare routine. Think of them as small molecules that penetrate the skin that only target specific problems. Serums are very specifically designed to cater to certain problems, like blemishes, dryness, brightening, pigmentation and so on. So if you’ve got extremely dry skin, look for serums with ingredients that help soothe dry skin and improve hydration levels. This step helps add extra moisture and plumpness to your skin!

Winter can be harsh on your skin, so it’s important to pick the product that best suitable for your skin type.
