Richa Chadha has always been an actress who isn’t afraid of experimenting with her choice of films and pushing the envelope each time, with every project. Now, she is back with a bang in her upcoming film, Shakeela. Richa is set to essay the role of the South-Indian soft-core sensation, Shakeela, who ruled the screens in South India during the late 1990s and 2000s.
This Indrajit Lankesh directorial is a peak into Shakeela’s life behind all that glamour and craze. Richa looks absolutely convincing as this naive, young girl who is pushed into this world of films that came to be known as ‘soft-porn’. It chronicles all the hardships she faced and how she comes out owning every frame she is in — both in her professional and personal life. The amazing Pankaj Tripathi plays the powerful star of the time who gets threatened by Shakeela‘s rising fame among the masses.
Check out the trailer:
It sure did remind me a little of Vidya Balan‘s much-appreciated film, The Dirty Picture, which was based on the life of another such soft-core actress, Silk Smitha. Incidentally, the trailer of this film also starts off announcing that after the death of Silk Smitha, there was a void in the industry, which Shakeela came to fill.
This Richa Chadha—Pankaj Tripathi starrer is set to release on December 25th in theatres in over 5 different languages all over India.
