Chitrangda Singh is always a sight to behold when she is on screen or in front of the camera, and there is no doubt about that. But, the actress has also faced her fair share of bias when it comes to the colour of her skin. Chitrangda recently opened up in an interview about how she has lost out on job opportunities because of this very reason.
In an interview with Bombay Times, the actress shared that she knows how it is to “live life as a girl with dusky skin.” She says that she has faced biases, especially during the time that she grew up in the north in Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Delhi. She says that even after she moved to Mumbai for work, she was discriminated for her based on her complexion.
Chitrangada shares that she lost out on many modelling assignments due to this in the initial days of her career. But an audition she did for a product helped her as it reached the veteran lyricist and artist, Gulzar, who took her in his music video. She states that she was a little hopeful then and realised that “not everyone is looking for white-skinned people.”
The actress recently took to her Instagram story where she shared a picture of herself and wrote that she was “brown and happy”. Explaining that, she told the publication that she while discrimination based on skin colour exists, we must first truly learn to be comfortable and feel beautiful in our own skin.
Chitrangda was last seen in Bazaar alongside Saif Ali Khan and played a cameo role in Nawazuddin Siddiqui‘s Ghoomketu. She will next be seen in Abhishek Bachchan‘s upcoming film, Bob Biswas, and I am super excited to watch her in it!
