Shilpa Shetty Kundra is someone who has evolved into a multi-faceted woman over the years. An entrepreneur, yoga and fitness ambassador, a lovely mother and an actress who is finally back to the silver screen after very long. While she did win hearts with her films in the 1990s, in a recent interview, Shilpa opened up about how it was not an easy journey for her as she was often typecast in the kind of roles she received.
Speaking to Neha Dhupia on No Filter Neha, Shilpa says that she was never taken seriously when it came to film roles and that it was a tough time she is glad to have surpassed.
Here’s what she said:
Back in the 1990’s, I have to be honest we were all typecast, either you were a very good actress and you would get those kinds of films or you would be typecast in those glamorous roles. And I was the latter, so nobody really took me seriously to offer me the main protagonist role.
She says that the game changer for her was the film ‘Dhadkan‘. She says that the director, Dharmesh Darshan stripped her off all that glamour and introduced a much more Indianised glamour to her personality that worked well for her.
Shilpa also adds that back in those days, the showbiz industry wasn’t as cushioned and comfortable as it is now.
She says:
Today we are getting scripts where everything is elucidated on paper, we didn’t have vanity vans and we still went to work with a smile on our faces in the sun and wearing those chiffon sarees in the snow. So we’ve done all of it and we enjoyed it. So today I feel we lead far more luxurious lives as actors, we are very very pampered with an entourage of staff and managers. I love this phase as well, I feel very pampered and feel very important but it was madness and today there’s method to that madness.
long gap from the big screen we will be seeing Shilpa soon in Priyadarshan’s, Hungama 2. I sure can’t wait for that!
