This week we have Akshay Oberoi sharing his binge-watch recommendations with us! Akshay Oberoi started his career by working at the famed Prithvi Theatre in Juhu with Makrand Deshpande and that’s when Makrand noted his passion and offered him a part in Miss Beautiful. He then went on to do his film debut in Sooraj Barjatya‘s Isi Life Mein. We’ve seen and loved him in Kaalakaandi, Laal Rang, Junglee along with web series like Hum, Tum and Them, The Test Cast, Selection Day, Flesh, and a few others. Scroll down to check out his top 5 picks on what he’s binge-watching currently.
1. Peaky Blinders
Where: Netflix
Peaky Blinders is a British drama series produced by Steven Knight. It revolves around a gang of criminals based in Birmingham in 1919. For me, the highlight of the series is the actor Cillian Murphy. He is one of the coolest and most badass actors you’ll ever find on this planet. The series has a fabulous ensemble cast and it is helmed by directors David Caffery and Tim Mielants. It is an absolutely stunning series.
2. The Family Man
Where: Amazon Prime Video
This deserves to be on everyone’s watchlist because Raj Nidimoru and Krishna D.K. are kickass directors and as we all know Manoj Bajpayee is a great actor. I think The Family Man is one of the better Indian shows we’ve put out. The series tells the story of a middle-class man secretly working as an intelligence officer for a fictitious branch of NIA.
3. Ozark
Where: Netflix
Ozark has a great storyline and it has been beautifully shot. When I watched it, I hoped we could make content like that in India. The series revolves around a financial planner, who moves to a summer resort community with his family after a money-laundering scheme goes wrong.
4. Dark
Where: Netflix
It is a German series streaming on Netflix. You can watch it in English and in other languages offered by the platform. It is a fantastic series. The reviews speak for themselves. It is a mystery-drama series, which introduces an intricate puzzle filled with twists that include a plethora of characters, all of whom have a connection to a German town’s troubled history.
5. Inside Edge
Where: Amazon Prime Video
What was interesting about this series is that it took our favourite sport, cricket, and wove it into a story of avarice, power and conflicting interests. It was India’s first big series in which a lot of money was invested and it received an Emmy nomination! It marked the collaboration of Excel Entertainment and Amazon Prime Video. I’m also in its third season and so shamelessly, I think Inside Edge is a great series to watch, particularly the third season, which hasn’t streamed yet. (laughs)
