All about the track ‘Kar Dikhaya‘
Covid-19 numbers saw a steep increase on April 1st 2020 and Dharavi became one of the biggest hotspots in the country. ‘Kar Dikhaya #AbTumhaariBaariHai‘ is an inspirational rap anthem, which talks about how Dharavi successfully fought against the Covid-19 pandemic. The bi-lingual Hip-Hop track features talented artists like MC Josh, Siva G, Amogh Baini and MC Siddhu, who narrate the story of their Dharavi model. We loved how the hopeful landscape of their neighbourhood gave a realistic touch to the anthem. The video highlighted how everyone adhered to the government norms, wore masks, practised the necessary hygiene and maintained social distancing. Amazing isn’t it?
What inspired them to create this track…
The main idea behind this music video was to tell people how the residents of Dharavi successfully curbed the spread of Covid-19 in their area. The masked emcees narrated their personal journey and battles as well as offered hope and confidence to others. It was mind-blowing to see how the artists handled everything themselves. From conceiving the idea to managing the production and filming, everything was implemented by the artists from scratch, how amazing is that? TDDP also received support from various popular dancers and choreographers and artists like AR Rahman Bosco Martis, Remo Dsouza and Shantanu Maheshwari.
Here’s what Dolly K. Rateshwar (Co-Founder, The Dharavi Dream Project) has to say,
As the pandemic rages on, social distancing is of utmost importance. However, places such as Dharavi — Asia’s largest slum — can’t conform to the strict codes of COVID-19 conventions. When almost every living space in the neighbourhood is home to 10-12 family members, and its inhabitants live in a small, 10×10 area, the odds are inevitably stacked against a favourable outcome. Despite the challenge, the people of Dharavi bent the curve of the COVID-19 pandemic in their neighbourhood, setting a unique example of how citizens can work together to observe proactive measures and squash the spread of the virus. Artists from our very own creator base in the neighbourhood – The Dharavi Dream Project, too accepted the responsibility of flattening the curve. Supported by EkDesh, they used the street form and lingo of hip-hop, TDDP artists helped the community vanquish the virus by urging everyone to unite on the forefront of the battle against COVID-19, proving that art, information and education when made
accessible and localized, can truly be a powerful tool of widespread change.
The rap anthem received an overwhelmingly positive response and we absolutely love the message they are trying put out there! Check out the whole track right here!
