Malini’s Girl Tribe nails it with celebrating important days in wondrous ways! And International Yoga Day this June was no different. We organised a virtual event with none other than Bollywood’s yogini, Malaika Arora. Malaika was mesmerising as always, but what was especially cool was that she shared some relatable tips and tricks to stay committed towards self-care during the event too. Naturally glowing in a casual pink jumper, she spoke candidly about her fitness journey in life. Malaika and the Girl Tribe members also discussed the importance of practising yoga and following a balanced diet for a better life.
Being a dancer, fitness has been an important part of Malaika’s life so far. After her encounter with several fitness forms like Pilates, weight training, and aerobics, she finally settled for yoga as a way of life. Her workout regimen only includes yoga, breathing, and meditation for the past one year.
The virtual session was immensely inspiring and left the members wanting to pursue a yoga routine or intensifying their current one. There were few mega takeaways from our tête-à-tête with Malaika!
Life lessons by Malaika:
1. Carving out that “me time” every day is very important. Dedicate at least an hour of your day for your very own mind, body and soul
2. Your body is your temple and you have to worship it and love it unconditionally!
3. Listen to signs given by your body. Every little discomfort portrays something about a bigger picture.
4. Fitness gives power, confidence and helps release those happy hormones
5. Believe in what you do and do it with total conviction.
6. Fight back, live life in your own terms, live regret, and pressure-free.
Malaika’s tips to get started with the yoga way of life:
1. Find the apt style of yoga that suits your body type. It could be a combination of different styles or just the basic one.
2. Including cardio is essential for holistic health. Never skip that cardio routine.
3. Start small with a couple of suryanamaskars or a few minutes of pranayama.
4. Yoga helps build mobility. The more you practice yoga, the flexibility and agility go up, which in turn will only encourage you to continue and stay consistent.
5. Yoga builds core strength, improves breathing, and helps bust stress.
6. Malaika stressed on how yoga helped her clear the mind clutter at times when she felt low. She stressed on how yoga helped her feel better mentally and emotionally.
Malaika’s favourite yoga exercises are suryanamaskars, twists, and backward bends.
The International Yoga Day celebration did not just end there. Diya Kapoor from Kriya by Diya hosted a wonderful chair yoga class for the ladies as well, The session included various yoga practices that one can perform comfortably sitting on a chair. And considering there are so many of us who are working from home, sitting up for long hours in a day looking into the devices, these exercises are a god-send!
