The 1988 film, Tezaab — starring Anil Kapoor and Madhuri Dixit in the lead roles — earned critical acclaim and went on to become a super hit among the audiences for its performances and songs alike. Now, learning trivia about such iconic films is always fun, amirite?
Chunky Panday, who played the role of Anil Kapoor’s friend, Babban in the film, revealed that his role in the film was initially offered to Govinda. He says that because Govinda became very busy post his hit film, Ilazaam, he couldn’t give the writer-director, N Chandra bulk dates. And that’s how the role of Babban came to Chunky.
Chunky adds:
I am lucky he (N Chandra) saw me as Babban and so, shot some extra scenes with me. He even gave me the evergreen, ‘So Gaya Yeh Jahaan’ before the heavy climax.
Sharing a fun anecdote while shooting the song, Chunky told the publication that he and Anil had gone to a 5-Star hotel coffee shop at 3 AM in the morning to grab something to eat. He says, “The shocked managed looked at us from up to down and asked if he should call the doctor. That’s when we realised we were still wearing our blood-splattered costumes!”
In the work front, speaking about his upcoming releases, he says he has two big films in the pipeline, but doesn’t reveal details about it. But he clarifies that he is not starring in Fighter as his daughter, Ananya Panday‘s, on-screen father. He says that he would love to play Ananya’s father, but isn’t a part of the Vijay Deverakonda starrer.
Chunky is also all set to make his digital debut with the Kunal Kemmu-starrer, Abhay 2. I am super excited to see him in the series, which is releasing on August 14th.
