Veteran actor Kumkum, who has worked in almost a 100 films in Hindi cinema, passed away at her house in Mumbai at the age of 86. She had appeared in some iconic films like Mother India, Kohinoor, Naya Daur among many others.
Sharing the news of her death, late actor Jagdeep and actor Jaaved Jaaferi‘s brother, Naaved Jafri, tweeted:
We have lost another gem. I have known her since I was a kid and she was family, a superb artist and a fantastic human being.

She is known for first featuring the song, “Kabhi Aar Kabhi Paar” from Guru Dutt‘s film, Aar Paar. The song, “Yeh Hai Bombay Meri Jaan” from the 1956 film C.I.D was also picturised on her. Trained in Kathak and a wonderful dancer, the late actress was also the lead dancer in the popular song, “Madhuban Mein Radhika Nache Re”.
She also starred in the first ever Bhojpuri film, Ganga Maiyya Tohe Piyari Chadhaibo in 1963. She was paired alongside everyone from Dharmendra, Vinod Khanna and Pran in her acting career. After her marriage to Sajjad Akbar Khan, she left the industry in 1973.
Reports suggest that she passed away peacefully at her home, while the cause of death is unknown. Her last rites took place at the Mazgaon cemetery.
