Sanjana Sanghi‘s debut film, Dil Bechara, premiered online last Friday. And while it is a huge deal by itself, she was also dealing with the fact that she had to release the film without her co-star, her Manny, Sushant Singh Rajput.
It’s a huge loss for her, and while the entire country is still finding it difficult to come to terms with his loss, I can only imagine her state of mind. Ask her about how she is dealing with all this and she says, “It is all still raw, the whole feeling“. In a conversation with us, she says she wishes he were here with her to crack jokes next to her and to hold her hand through this whole experience. But she also says that it is on her to get herself together and crack the jokes, knowing he will always be around, because that’s what he would want.
Dil Bechara is a romantic drama and leans slightly towards the emotional side, but when asked what genre she would really like to explore, Sanjana exclaims saying, “Comedy”!
She adds:
My humour is so dry and sarcastic, that I am offending people for most of my life. And then they get to know me and they realise, ‘Oh, she didn’t mean it’. Even on my Instagram, I am constantly getting misconstrued because I just say what comes to my mind. But the thing is that, you see you are in a society where that does not get embraced, that does break my heart. I wish there was less negativity right now. I can sense it, it’s palpable. I know it’s the pandemic also that’s forcing people to remove that frustration and helplessness in weird ways. But I wish they turned that into positivity.
