Musician AR. Rahman and filmmaker Shekhar Kapur have collaborated with Shayamal Vallabhji a South Africa-based sports scientist to erect a support community for those battling depression.
According to a report by MidDay, Shayamal informed that his company QSV Inspiration Media which is partnered with Shekhar Kapur, A R. Rahman and late Samir Bangara’s Qyuki– was established to put their focal point on content in the fields of science, spirituality and psychology. Upon understanding and realising that there is hardly any awareness about mental health in the country, they took a decision to start an initiative that would aid people “grow into a better version of themselves.”
Talking to MidDay, Shayamal said—
We are building a community around my model of balance that has four components — body, mind, relationships and environment. The community will include like-minded people who are invested in personal growth and have access to the best mentors around the world,” he states. The programme, which will include counselling sessions, group therapy and workshops, will be led by psychiatrists and healthcare professionals. “The community will meet offline and online.
When he was asked if he is planning on getting celebrities on board to spread the word, he said— “We will bring together local and international celebrities and teachers. Mental health is one of the many topics we will focus on.”
