I got to talk to Bollywood actor Ranvir Shorey while he was on a virtual promotion spree for his upcoming comedy Lootcase and we got talking about everything from his career trajectory, his affinity to comedy, and how he’s always wanted to be an actor an not the stereotypical hero. While talking about all of this, we also had to touch up on his recent twitter banter with Anurag Kashyap that got a lot of attention from the media.
When I asked him about the same, he brushed it off saying:
No no. It’s nothing really. Anurag is a friend, he still is a friend. That was just a misunderstanding. And it was only because it was Twitter that things got picked up.
The Twitter spat started out when Ranvir had tweeted about many independent filmmakers who went on to be mainstream Bollywood flunkies now. Anurag seemed to take offense to the said tweet and replied to Ranvir asking him to speak clearly.
Check it out:
Ranvir also talked about how Twitter was more of a political platform and hence everything seemed more like people were shouting at each other.
In our interview, Ranvir also talked about how it was completely wrong for the event organizers to leave out his film Lootcase out of the huge announcement that took place for all the other films that are soon going to release on the same OTT platforms. But he was very hopeful that the groupism that existed outside the digital space was not as strong when it came to OTT platforms. He in fact suggested that such platforms were way more democratic and hoped that they remained so.
