Sushant Singh Rajput‘s tragic demise rekindled the topic of nepotism in Bollywood yet again. Many celebrities opened about their share of struggles in the industry. Similarly, Udaan star Rajat Barmecha, in a recent interaction with Mumbai Mirror, opened about his performance in the movie and how star kids with no projects were clicked more than him on the red carpet.
Talking about his experience of being an outsider, he said—
Everywhere I went, I was being complimented for my performance. As a 21-year-old actor, it gave me hope. I read every script that came my way, but they were all mediocre, formulaic films or those in which I was there throughout, but added no value. I couldn’t afford to do a bad film because then, I’d be written off as a one-film wonder.
Rajat said that he was acknowledged by Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, Anushka Sharma and many for his performance, but did not get any attention at events.
He revealed—
But on the red carpet, those with no projects to their name but coming from a film background were clicked more than me, while the producers who had praised my work earlier, did not recognise me.
In the report, Rajat Barmecha was also quoted saying that he started scripting from last year, but was being lethargic. He further said that the lockdown gave him enough time to complete it and will share the script with his Udaan director Vikramaditya Motwane after filing it. The actor concluded by saying that he will be the lead character in the story with a foreigner starring opposite him.
