It’s no secret, at some point or another most of us have imagined ourselves in a funky hairstyle or colour that we are too afraid to pull off. Whether it is pinning images on Pinterest, or saving inspirational styles on Instagram, the ideal hair-do has a collection of its own on our phones. While some people are blessed with thick and easy to maintain hair, the other half struggles to find a perfect balance. As a result, planning a haircut takes some serious research and effort. The want of a new look is attributed to several factors such as a need for change, new season, or maybe a post-breakup fix. Either way, we all go through the same process; getting recommendations, visiting salons for consultations, or picking the right hairdresser.
The pandemic was an opportunity for us girls to discover a home grooming routine. While some of you might have grown out your hair, a good portion of people took it upon them to DIY and cut their own strands. For those who of you failed miserably, or require a hair fix, worry no more! Salons are slowly reopening, and it’s time to plan the hair transformation you crave(while being safe, of course). Bob-cuts and short hair might be the go-to look for hotter days, but the predicted trend for the season is longer tresses.
We understand that all styles are not fuss-free, depending on your hair type many require the dreaded hair tools. However, there are also a few chic cuts that could work for your hair regardless of the texture and are not laborious. Radiate positivity with that new look! And to help make this easier, we have collected some low-maintenance haircuts to guide your decision.
Keep scrolling to check out 6 easy low-maintenance haircuts to inspire your hair transformation:
1. Grown out lob
A grown-out lob is one of the biggest hair trends for 2020. It’s a slightly longer version of the bob. A more mid-length cut that sits just on your shoulders. This haircut gives you the perfect in-between without committing to either longer or shorter cuts. A versatile style, it allows you to play around with different hairstyles and give some cool looks. Some fun ways to style your hair on the down-low include a modern, effortless tousled look with soft waves like Deepika Padukone has here or opt for a sleeker straight look a-la Kim Kardashian, with boss babe vibes. A low-maintenance fav!
2. Shoulder length shag
A great low-maintenance hairstyle—the shag hairstyle is another hot hair trend. This ‘70’s era hairstyle has had a modern update recently and worth trying if you want a major hair change. Generally featuring choppy ends, texture and multilayers this haircut can really give you some rockstar glam. It’s a super easy hairstyle if you want to add more volume, texture and depth to your hair. Opt for a longer, shoulder-length version with lots of layers to frame your face if you have more wavy hair. This chic look easily works for almost any hair length or style. Wear it messy or more polished, check in with your hairstylist for what version works best for your natural hair and face shape. Check out how Taylor Swift has been rocking the shag with bangs for the past year.
3. Pixie cut
Don’t be alarmed by the classic pixie cut. It can be terrifying when you first think about it, but it can really make you look like a badass. This timeless classic is easy to maintain and style; also, perfect for women who are always in a hurry and no time to fuss too much with their hair. Flattering on most face shapes, there’s a version for everyone. Short all over, the pixie can be styled casually or more polished with a side part. And if you have thick hair, this short haircut is a perfect match for your hair texture. Take a cue from Mandira Bedi who has been rocking a pixie cut for years. The length helps the hair dry quicker and be more manageable. This cut is especially perfect during the monsoon season. Ask your stylist to add some choppy pieces to give your hair some dimension.
4. Super-long locks
Extra-long strands are literally the opposite of the blunt bob or lob haircuts. While most people cut off their hair during quarantine, this long hairstyle is a great low-maintenance option for someone actually looking for longer hair instead. So the obvious choice here, of course, is extensions for creating length, but if you’re blessed with naturally long hair all you need is regular trims to keep the ends healthy. When getting a cut, go for more gentle chops from the chest up to give some movement. Avoid blunt ends that can make your hair look like heavy drapes. While Kourtney Kardashian recently chopped off her hair we’re still in love with her OG long locks!
5. Cascading layers
If you’ve got long, thick straight hair, cascading layers are your best friend this year. It creates an illusion of volume with minimal effort. The trick here is balancing length and some face-framing layers ideally below the chin. If you have finer hair opt for more drama at the ends as well. Or just go for all-around haphazard layers that take care of the styling for you, just wash and air dry. Complementing every face shape this also looks great with a middle or side parting like Katrina Kaif has here. She’s giving us some major hair envy!
6. Curtain Bangs
Hear me out, there’s no need to be afraid of bangs! I know a lot of us have gone through the trauma of trying to cut our own bangs during lockdown but hear me out. Curtain bangs are a chic, retro style trend gaining popularity with international celebs and are surprisingly easy to maintain. Usually parted down in the middle, these bangs frame your face on either side. Being on the longer side with wispy ends, they can easily be grown out into layers that frame your face. American singer Camila Cabello is our hair inspo for curtain bangs. This has been her signature hairstyle for a while and she makes them look so good that I want to run out and get them done myself.
Whether you let them down or do a high ponytail, curtain bangs look super cute on everyone. If you have more rounded or square faces it can help to elongate your appearance. You just might need to get used to giving your bangs some body and bounce. Don’t forget your trusty dry shampoo to refresh greasy bangs.
