I’ve been meaning to discuss Karisma Kapoor for a while now because I’ve noticed an upward graph in her fashion sensibility. Truthfully, Karisma was always ahead of the curve even back then. She was an A-list actress and always dressed the part in her movies. Her costumes were current and relevant to the trends of the time. I obsessed over her looks from Dhulan Hum Le Jayenge for years after the movie aired. And I bet a ton of you like me looked to her for style inspo. I bet you probably even went to your tailor and showed him a pic of her outfit you wanted to get tailored.
The common thread to acknowledge in her style is that she looks like her youthful self but with more a sophisticated and polished vibe. I guess we have her stylists to thank. She often oscillates between Tanya Ghavri and Eshaa Amiin and both of these stylists have given her some unforgettable looks that seem to do justice to her personality. I curiously looked through her profile and saw that she’s worn some really stylish ethnic wear and I realised they’d make a rainbow if placed in a certain way. I think I was most excited by this idea especially since it is Pride month. Scroll on to see Karisma’s rainbow-coloured ethnic looks.
Here’s a look at some of my favourite ethnic looks from Karisma Kapoor:
1) Indigo Sequin Saree
Gotta love how this indigo, sequin saree looks against Karisma’s skin. She looks like porcelain and the hair and makeup complement her look effectively as well. This is a common Manish Malhotra number that all the top B-town stars have sported at some point or the other.
2) Blue Anarkali
The pulled back low-bun seems to be a look Karisma likes to repeat often. Besides, it is actually a great look for ethnic wear because one can then show-off their gorgeous ethnic earrings. The gold detailing on the neckline, dupatta and hemline look so well matched to her skin tone. Of course, this has to be a Sabyasachi creation because look at that meticulous attention to detail.
3) Green Asymmetrical Dress
Anamika Khanna makes some widely exquisite Indo-western wear. Sometimes I wonder how her genius mind puts together colour combos and styles. Karisma’s one-shoulder dress with a tiered hemline is seamlessly paired with this black, sleeveless, indo-western jacket. The fuzzy texture on the jacket with tiny, triangular pom-pom detailing is exquisite and defo something to make note of. Love her high pony and cinched in waistline.
4) Green Sherwani Jacket & Cigarette Trousers
Karisma looks royal and grand in this mint green sherwani style jacket. The all-over paisley print and detailing along the neckline is to die for. I love how it somewhat connects to the colour of the pants and works so well in tandem with the entire outfit. The blood-red cigarette pants fit Karisma like a dream come true. The only thing I dislike about this look is her hairstyle. Otherwise, major props to Anamika Khanna again for another outstanding look.
5) Mustard-Yellow Silk Brocade Salwar Suit
Honestly, I just randomly scroll through Payal Khandwala‘s page thinking, can some people I know get married, just so that I can buy one of her magical pieces. Love her, love her aesthetic and everything about the way she designs. Look at this gorgeous colour, and look at how it makes Karisma glow. The mustard-yellow kurta with bronze design work is paired with a lehenga style skirt. The silk brocade number is paired seamlessly with a sheer dupatta with a silk border. Uff, too much love.
6) Red Empire-Waist Kurta With Patiala Pants
How gorgeous does this simple red number look? Karisma looks pristine in this red Raw Mango by Sanjay Garg outfit. The empire waistline, the high neck, the silhouette, the sleeves just all seem to be elevating the look of this outfit. The spatial style pants also look great on her with flattering gold mojris. What I like about this look most is that print., don’t you think?
7) Orange Linen Saree
This tangerine saree from Anavila feels so youthful and retro. There’s just something about the pleats and the drape of a linen saree that makes it such a must-have for Indians. The juxtaposition of the saree against Harrods in the background is just incredible, I feel. The dangly earrings and the potli are the perfect matches for the vibe this outfit has.
8) Pink Silk Brocade Saree
Raw Mango by Sanjay Garg is another label that I constantly keep my eye on. Maybe it’s the fact that I love brocade and don’t really own anything in brocade. I love this monochrome, pink saree that Karisma sports. Right from the border to that buttery, silk ¾ sleeve blouse. Even the jewellery is so well-paired with this look.
9) White Kurta Jacket Set
Antar-Agni by Ujjwal Dubey makes some genius androgynous clothes. Karisma looks fab in these off-white, calf-length trousers paired with sneakers. I think I’m digging the whole mix of Indian with western here. The conservative, high-neck, the one-piece kurta with pockets comes tailored with a longline jacket. This addition really takes this look to the next level. Also, that red lip is just so perfect for this colour outfit.
