Dharma Productions head honcho and director Karan Johar who was previously extremely active on social media have become quiet after the backlash he received after Sushant Singh Rajput‘s death. The director who had taken to his Instagram to express his sadness at the demise of Sushant was indirectly held responsible for pushing the actor to take such a drastic step. Fans of Sushant claimed that it was Bollywood biggies like KJo who promoted nepotism had boycotted the late actor and his projects.

The weeks following the actor’s demise have been filled with conspiracy theories all across the internet with fans and followers of Sushant blaming KJo and star kids for the privilege and power they exercise within the industry. KJo along with celebrities like Sonam Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Sonakshi Sinha, Varun Dhawan have been receiving a lot of hate online and have lost a lot of followers on social media. While Sonakshi quit Twitter, many like KJo and Sonam limited their comments section on Instagram. Karan’s show Koffee With Karan has also come under a lot of fire for being condescending to outsiders and a few episodes in which Sushant was mentioned have been specifically picked out for the same. KJo who has chosen to remain tight-lipped about the raging nepotism debates on social media is believed to have handed in his resignation to MAMI (Mumbai Academy Of Moving Image). According to a report in Pinkvilla, Karan has already sent in his resignation to the director of the annual film festival, Smriti Kiran.

The report also suggests that MAMI chairperson and actress Deepika Padukone tried to convince Karan to stay back but it turns out the director had already made up his mind.

Karan is currently maintaining a low profile on social media and has chosen to unfollow almost everyone on Twitter except for four celebrities.
