It is no new news that social media now has become a boiling pot of discussions — be it the COVID-19 situation or nepotism when it comes to Bollywood. The untimely death by suicide of actor Sushant Singh Rajput opened up the discussion on nepotism and a lot of celebrities like Karan Johar, Alia Bhatt, and Salman Khan and many other ‘star kids’ were pulled up and unfollowed on social media over the past week.
Citing negativity and toxicity of the platform, actress Sonakshi Sinha has decided to quit the micro-blogging site on Saturday and tweeted saying, “The first step to protecting your sanity is to stay away from negativity. And no where more of that than twitter these days! Chalo, I am off – deactivating my account. Bye guys, peace out.”
She also took to her Instagram yesterday to post a video of her entering the screen, looking around and disappearing at the snap of her fingers. With this, she also penned a note on how it took just one snap of a finger to ‘get rid of a following of 16 million people‘ she had garnered over the last ten years. The Dabangg actress states that she has cut off ‘the direct source of insult and abuse in her life’ and that she wishes all her trolls lots of love and healing.
