Imagine receiving directions from the Shahenshah of Bollywood, Amitabh Bachchan, whenever you switch on your Google Maps. According to the Mid-Day report, the 77-year-old veteran actor was approached by Google to lend his iconic voice to their app.
But this is not the first time the actor will be recording for a project. He has lent his voice to many films and songs in the past and is renowned for the depth and baritone of his tone. The report also suggests that he has been paid a huge amount for this project. Right now, Google Maps uses a New York-based entertainer, Karen Jacobsen’s voice. He is also apparently the voice behind Apple‘s, Siri.
Given it’s the time of the Coronavirus and everyone is bound to their homes, Big B will have to record his voice from his own home in order to maintain social distancing.
Again, this is not the first time that Google has approached celebrities to lend their voices to their products. American singer John Legend and actress Issa Rae have also been approached to voice for the Google assistant app. But it has been region specific, like Mr. Bachchan’s project in Hindi and English will also be specific to the Indian audiences.
We are super excited to hear a voice like Mr. Bachchan guiding us around the city and can’t wait to know more about this project!
