A lot has been spoken about Sanjay Leela Bhansali‘s next Gangubai Kathiawadi starring Alia Bhatt in the lead. Most recent reports suggested that Emraan Hashmi and Ajay Devgn would be joining the cast and will be seen in pivotal roles. It was also said that Emraan had finished shooting for most of his scenes before the lockdown, while Ajay was yet to shoot his. Now, we’ve stumbled across more details of Emraan’s character in the film.
A report in Peeping Moon suggests that Emraan will be seen playing a negative character in the film. He doesn’t have much screen time but is pivotal to the story of Gangubai. He will be essaying the role of Alia’s husband in the movie, who sells her off at a brothel, pushing her into prostitution at a very young age. Emraan’s character is Gangubai‘s father’s accountant who falls in love with her and runs away with her to Mumbai. According to Hussain Zaidi‘s book, Mafia Queens of Mumbai, on which the film is based on, it is said that Gagubai’s husband sold her off for Rs.500 just when she was planning to start a new life with him.
This particular role was supposedly offered to Kartik Aaryan as well who refused to take it because he didn’t want to get into a negative character. A few others were also shortlisted for the same role, but finally Alia’s cousin Emraan stepped into play this pivotal role.
