While she made her debut as the only female lead in Fugly back in 2014, Kiara Advani only started gaining popularity after playing a part in Karan Johar‘s portion of Lust Stories. More recently her stint on the big screen as Preeti from Kabir Singh got her into the big league of films. Recently, in a conversation with Anupama Chopra, among other things she mentioned how she thought it was unfair for Kabir Singh to receive such backlash.
Talking about the same she said:
So much was made out of it, and so much backlash happened, it was so exhausting…” Anything I do today, Preeti does not leave me. The director had his perspective, we had ours, and the audience theirs and that was divided, but I feel you can’t disrespect the intelligence of the audience.
But she also mentioned that the movie forced conversations that needed to be had.
One some level, there were things that were raised in the debate that were actually healthy… Somewhere we get really hard on certain films, and I don’t know if it was that fair to be that hard on this film.
She also provided an alternative so the reactions and backlash may not have been so harsh.
Sometimes I wonder had you seen Preeti’s life when she goes missing in the second half, maybe there would have been some sort of justification… Maybe had the audience seen what she went through when the separation happened would they have been so hard?
The actress has quite an exciting line of films coming up. Laxxmi Bomb alongside Akshay Kumar was supposed to release on 22nd May 2020, but the release had to be postponed due to the lockdown.
