Covid-19 virus and the subsequent nation-wide lockdown that’s been imposed has been hard on all of us but it’s been especially hard on migrant workers who’ve come to the cities just for jobs. These are people who migrant from their hometowns to bigger cities like Mumbai just to earn a living. Unfortunately during the lockdown, they were rendered jobless and homeless with no escape from poverty and many resorted to walk back to their native places. But actor Sonu Sood has proven to be a real-life superhero for migrant workers as he’s personally taking care of sending all the migrant workers in Mumbai back home.
But the migrant workers seem to be more than thankful to the actor for his great deed and recently in an interview with Anupama Chopra, Sonu revealed a touching story of what a migrant lady had done as a thank you to him. He said that the family of a pregnant migrant woman who he had helped reach her village called him up to inform him that she had named her son, Sonu Sood.
Recounting the conversation he said:
I said, how can it be Sonu Sood as you are Shrivastav. It could probably be Sonu Shrivastav, but she said, ‘Nahi humney bachche ka naam Sonu Sood Shrivastav rakha hai.’ That was so sweet; I was touched.
He spoke about how he felt deeply saddened by how these migrant workers were trying to get home on foot carrying their little children. Speaking to ANI, he spoke about how he felt deeply for them.
These are the people who built our houses, our offices, they have laid the roads and I feel that we should not leave them in such distress. I thought that I have to come forward to help them and that is why I personally spoke to the governments, local as well as state, and got the arrangements done.
His efforts to send migrant workers home have got him appreciation from the Maharashtra government as well.
We can’t help but laud Sonu’s great efforts.
