It seems this year is about embracing the safari-inspired trends for Spring/Summer 2020. One of the key pieces gaining popularity is cargo pants and the cargo pocket trend which were originally created for functionality and were designed to be able to hold more items on your body like for the army or even hunting.
While you might remember this trend from the early ‘2000s, this isn’t your old dated cargo trousers anymore! We are now seeing this style in many different fits and fabrics. I know this isn’t the first thing you think of when you think of an uber-chic look but these mannish looking bottoms are extremely comfortable and go well with the basics or even tailored pieces in your closet. Don’t believe me, just take a look at the newer generation of celebs like American singer Billie Ellish who brought on a fresh take to this look and made it immensely popular with Gen Z and millennial population. Cargo’s get a bad rep but they truly are as easy to style and we’ve listed some style inspiration from our favourite influencers to get you started.
Keep scrolling to check out how these fashionistas are styling cargo pants:
1.High-Waisted Pants & Crop-Top
We love how Santoshi Shetty gives off the cool-girl vibe with this mostly neutral look. Her nude high-waisted cargo pants, cinched at the ankles are made from a more breathable fabric. But what elevates the look is how she has cropped her top up to her bralette, showing-off just a peek-a-boo of skin. Simply knot the front of your top to get Santoshi’s look. The matching stark white boots stand out and give her entire ensemble more of an edge while simultaneously looking chic.
2.Minimal Yet Feminine
Sometimes less is more! Go for a minimal look like Riya Jain who opted for a more tonal vibe with slouchy, paper bag-waist, cargo trousers. She balanced this off by teaming it with an ultra-feminine, off-white, satin camisole top. Keeping her accessories more streamlined, she’s matched them with the same shade of black; her shoes, belt and bag. This makes for a great everyday outfit that is relaxed and comfortable yet super stylish.
3.Indo-Western Twist
We’re in love with Juhi Godambe’s matching orange co-ord set. The Kutch embroidery on the cropped shirt and high0waisted, fitted cargo-style pants create a monochromatic look that is fun, super trendy and classy, all at the same time. Definitely a style worth trying out next time you’re rummaging through your closet looking for things to wear.
4.Cargo Jumpsuit
Get a one and done look with a utility cargo jumpsuit. Function meets fashion with Shreen’s dark, baggy cargo jumpsuit with rolled-up sleeves. She looks effortlessly stylish with just a statement bag while keeping other elements minimal and letting the outfit speak for itself. If you opt for a looser jumpsuit, use a belt to help give your waist some definition as Shreen has over here.
5. Pair A Blazer With Your Cargos
Sakshi Sindwani looks ready to kick some ass in this outfit! The oversized, double-breasted blazer with an otherwise completely black look adds some sophistication and instant polish to her street-style, grunge look. The pop of blue breaks up her monochromatic outfit, while the studded boots and cargo pants add edge. You can also go from day to night by swapping the boots for strappy heels and adding in some subtle jewellery pieces.
6.The Sporty Cargo Pant
Why not just embrace the sporty vibe as Diksha Vohra has here. Brands have recently adopted the cargo and athleisure trend with more breathable fabrics. This makes it easier to grab a cup of coffee or work out while looking trendy at the same time. Diksha perfectly leans into the athleisure vibe with her white cargo pants and matching tonal tank top. The bomber jacket adds just the right amount of colour to her entire white ensemble making the outfit smart yet fashionable.
