Remember that time when your strap cut into your shoulder or that pesky underwire kept poking you all day? How can something so essential like bras, cause so much trouble for us women? Bras are the one thing us women have a common love-hate relationship with.
Most of the women in my life have had some complaint or another regarding a mischievous bra that caused an embarrassing situation or failed them at key moments. Luckily with the help of some clever bra hacks and tricks, it’s time to get these issues sorted! I’ve listed five easy bra hacks that have been my saviour on many occasions. They are fuss-free, non-destructive and work great if you’re in a bind!
Keep scrolling to check out these genius bra hacks:
1. Keep your strapless bra up
I think this is my number one annoyance with a strapless bra. Why won’t it just stay up? Well, gravity TBH but no matter the style or brand, I always encounter the same issue. Luckily this following hack has saved my life on countless occasions.
Step 1:
Unhook your straps only from the front ends and remove one of the straps altogether. You will need only one strap for this hack.
Step 2:
Adjust the length of the strap to be longer.
Step 3:
Bring the strap from the back around to the front, over the underside of your chest and hook it around on the back on the other side. If you’re confused then this strap gets fastened right under your boobs. In case, you are heavier on the chest another way to secure your bra, is to repeat this same step but to take the strap from under your armpit around your chest and attach to the other side going under the armpit again. So this way the strap will sit flush against the skin about your breasts.
Your single strap is now connected on both ends creating a stable hold for your bra to stay positioned all night.
2. Cross back hack
You know those racerback tops you love but just don’t have the right bra for? Don’t you worry about a thing because this bra hack has got your back—wink! pun intended!
This is super handy when you don’t have detachable straps on your existing bras or a racerback bra. All you need a sturdy paper clip!
Step 1:
Pull both straps of your regular bra towards the centre of your back and hold in place.
Step 2:
Hook the two straps at this point with the paperclip. Make sure the clip sits comfortably flat along your back before wearing your shirt and your good to go.
Want to use this trick more often? Why not invest in an affordable bra clip you can purchase easily and is available online.
3. Prevent the straps from cutting into your shoulder
Ouch! This is surely a painful problem. I hate it when straps start cutting into your shoulder even after you have adjusted it a million times! Here’s a quick fix for this issue.
Grab a cotton pad or two, for each shoulder and gently place it on the spot where the pressure is the strongest, right under the strap. Your strap will hold the cotton firmly in place and allow it to comfortably cushion your shoulder.
4. Troublesome underwires
Underwires digging in or sticking out can often be a nuisance when you’re trying to go about your day. Just grab a panty liner and a pair of scissors, roughly measure and cut out a small piece, wrap this around the protruding wire. Voila, you’re good to go! Alternatively, if one end is sticking out from the top, use a band-aid to cover that one point.
Please remember that these are temporary fixes and a pointy or bent underwire can be dangerous. If your bra is causing too many issues it might be time to retire it. You don’t want to jab yourself in the side by accident!
5. Boob sweat
Don’t be shy! A lot of us go through the issue of dreaded boob sweat stains, especially during peak summertime. A sure-fire way to prevent this and keep dry is by sticking a panty liner in your bra. Yes, another panty liner hack—useful items aren’t they!
Just stick two liners, each one under the base of your bra cups and let them work their magic absorbing the sweat throughout the day. It might sound silly, but trust me it works wonders.
