Sequin dresses are equivalent to that of an LBD in my honest opinion. A little black dress is definitely a must-have wardrobe basic and while sequin dresses didn’t make the cut to my list, I do believe that they are the next item to add to one’s wardrobe. A sequin garment just adds the right amount of pizzaz to one’s wardrobe. If you ever need to shake up your vibe for a night out partying with your ladies then look no further than the little sequin dress hanging in your closet. And it’s definitely not just a red carpet trend for sure.
Yes, it’s true they say sequins don’t work in the day time but with the right colour palette, anything goes. And you need to sprinkle that look with oodles of confidence. Once you’ve built up the foundation with that little dress then you can move on to more experimentation and items like sequin jackets, a sequin gown, a sequin pencil skirt and a pantsuit. These do sound like heavy-duty items to simply experiment with but you can always look to your Bollywood hotties to show you how they nail the sequin trend.
Here’s a look at how our favourite Bollywood leading ladies wear sequins:
Mira Kapoor in a sequin crop top
Mira’s crop top is exactly what I meant when I was talking about sequins in the day time. It’s a perfect blend of colours and she’s paired it well against a nice pop of orange that makes it subtle enough to wear in the day. Her crop top is from Bobo Calcutta.
Malaika Arora in a pencil skirt
Malaika’s two-toned sequin skirt also doubles up as a look that can easily transition from day to night with a few key accessory changes. I love how chic this combo is—she wears a look from Leal Daccarett
Sara Ali Khan in a sequin mini skirt
This is exactly what you can accomplish with the right styling. A nice crisp stripe shirt with a sequin mini skirt looks great to wear in the day. You can always switch into a black tank top and you’d be ready to roll right out the door to a party in this look.
Nushrat Bharucha in wide-legged trousers
Sequin trousers look fantastic if and when paired with basics. A basic tee or a basic black tank work superbly well with this feature item.
Kiara Advani in a pantsuit
Kiara makes a bold choice in this bright leaf green pantsuit from Cinq à Sept. Not for the weak-hearted this look I admit. Even I wouldn’t dare to venture down this road overnight.
Kareena Kapoor Khan in a gown
Kareena’s electric blue gown from Raisa Vanessa is unique because of the polo neck detail, not the most common design element on an evening gown. What makes this look far more special is the thigh-high slit that adds the right amount of sex appeal.
Anushka Sharma in a midi dress
Going for a more conservative look Anushka gives us a dose of what it could look like. This magenta pink midi dress from Temperley London is the stuff of my closet dreams.
Katrina Kaif in a sequin mini dress
I’m so sure that if not all women then most women already have a sexy sequin number stashed away in their closets to pull out when they need the big guns to impress. This item is definitely a must-have item. Katrina’s mini is from Ashish.
Kriti Sanon in blazer dress
Kriti’s blazer dress can also be worn as an oversized blazer with other separates from your wardrobe. Love the dull silver sequins on this ensemble from Deme by Gabriella.
Janhvi Kapoor in a sequin saree
Janhvi’s lilac saree from Manish Malhotra is so elegant and vibrant, it’s also a look we’ve seen a lot of other actresses wear as well. It definitely works for the day time and night time as well. This is probably one of those look’s I’d want to wear to my best friends wedding.
Ananya Panday in a lehenga
Ananya’s gold lehenga from Kresha Bajaj would look fantastic on brown Indian skin tones. It’s definitely an outfit to steal the limelight. How gorgeous are the details on the bralette and the skirt?
