6 Celebrity Looks That Are Chic From The Waist Up & Perfect For A Work Video Call

Shikha Kohli

When working from home it can be easy to bail on decking up, considering the only people seeing are the people living with you. However, as a fashion connoisseur, I have always found the whole process of getting dressed almost therapeutic and is unquestionably a pick-me-up on a dull day. Notice how you feel chirpier and happier when you like your outfit?

Just because people aren’t around to validate our fabulous #OOTD, doesn’t mean we bereave ourselves of the joy of dressing up. Which brings me to the next big question, what and who do we dress for? Well, there is a silver lining. Working from home also calls for a lot of video calls through the day. More human interaction? Yes, please.

The best part about video calls is that your colleagues, boss or client, can only see you shoulder up. Which means no fussy- trousers, and annoying jeans, you could be comfy, sitting cross-legged in front of the laptop, in PJs, but look chic and professional at the same time. I say its a win-win, you get the best best of both worlds, style and comfort.

So, I decided to draw inspiration from some of my fave celebrities to wear for my next video call.

#1. Alia Bhatt‘s printed blazer

We all have that one loud, printed or abstract piece that looked incredible online. But when you bring it back, you cannot seem to wear it, because you don’t know what it matches. Well, now is the time to pull that printed jacket or top out, and wear it with your PJs, or not, whose looking anyway?

#2. Priyanka Chopra‘s navy blouse

A flowy chiffon blouse is professional, chic, but not as fussy as a blazer or stiff shirt. Take a styling cue from PeeCee and wear your chiffon blouse buttoned up to the top, for a more preppy, elegant and professional look. Pull your hair back in a messy low bun the way Priyanka did, so no one needs to know that you haven’t washed your hair this week.

#3. Kriti Sanon‘s chambray shirt

If a chiffon shirt or printed blazer seem a bit too formal and professional, then this celebrity look is just for you. Kriti Sanon wore a denim shirt with a sequin skirt, which a great styling trick if you want to dress a piece down, you can simply wear yours with joggers. Denim shirts, aka chambray shirts, look put together but have a more comfortable, easy-going, and chill vibe. You could either wear the shirt buttoned up or use it as a layer over the tank top you had been lounging around in all day.

#4. Deepika Padukone‘s strong accessory game

A rule of thumb in styling is that adding chunky gold accessories can instantly make anything look classy and polished. Shaleena Nathani followed this very styling rule of thumb for when styling Deepika for this look. If you have been idling all day in a basic black tee, and need to glam up for a video call, just put on chunky gold hoops, stack on some necklaces and you are good to go.

#5 Shraddha Kapoor‘s halter neck crop top

Alternatively, instead of playing with prints and textures, play with hues. White, black, navy and brown are all classic colours; however, lighter shades such as- millennial pink, gen-z yellow or powder blue, look elegant and classy.  This lavender top of Shraddha Kapoor’s is pretty basic but still looks chic. A fitted rib-knit top like this one can also be taken straight from a video conference to your at-home workout.

#6 Ileana D’cruz‘ printed top

If you are putting the effort to forsake your torn old tees and chose to wear something chic, then might as well pick a look where the details are all shoulder up. A printed top like Ileana’s that has a trendy paisley print, along with statement shoulders and a tie detail around the waist would be an excellent pick for a video meeting.
