Each year on 7th April, the World Health Organization observes World Health Day. It is observed to acknowledge and appreciate the contribution and hard work of the doctors, nurses and other health workers. And now, when the whole world is fighting against Coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic, these healthcare workers are actually our frontline soldiers in this war.

The World Health Day 2020 tagline is Support Nurses And Midwives—to highlight the current status of nursing around the world. The World Health Organisation has also pledged to make a series of recommendations that will help strengthen the midwifery and nursing workforce. The current year has also been designated as the Internation Year of the Nurse and the Midwife.

Why It’s Important

Without the help of nurses, there really wouldn’t be any kind of ‘response’ to the COVID-19 emergencies, or for that matter, any public health emergencies. They’ve been working tirelessly, sacrificing their health and safety to keep ours intact. It is so important that we acknowledge and appreciate their efforts and dedication during this virus war. They play a critical role in keeping the world healthy and World Health Day is observed to celebrate and remind world leaders of this.
