With altering mindsets and outlooks, sarees have surely taken a back seat in many wardrobes. However, let’s #throwback to the times where people loved wearing cotton summer sarees and georgette sarees in sweaty, sticky hot months. How did our dadis and nanis do that? From work to household chores, everything was done in a crisp and cool saree.
The hot weather call for breezy, cool and light-weight outfits that are breathable through the day. I don’t blame you reaching out to your go-to linen shorts and tee, or cotton summer dresses, that are most girl’s summer BFFs, but also BORING! Do you know what other garment is light-weight and breathable for the summer? Sarees. Nothing works better than an awesome, airy saree in summers.
To think of it logically, sarees have great air circulation, and can easily be dressed up and down. Also, retro is back in style and it is quite trendy to wear regal chiffon sarees, plain sarees with striking borders, or dreamy floral sarees.
Here are some Bollywood divas rocking summer sarees
Sonam Kapoor in a House of Masaba summer saree
Nothing screams summers like a striking floral print. Sonam Kapoor wore a ditsy print summer saree, from House Of Masaba, the saree included a ruffled sleeve blouse, which featured an airy square neckline, perfect for the summers. She accessorised her look with oxidized jewellery.
Mouni Roy in a Nupur Kanoi tie-dye summer saree
Mouni Roy added a splash of print in a tie-dye Nupur Kanoi summer saree that had an interesting asymmetrical hem drape. She wore the saree with a contrasting bikini blouse. A look like this could be quite a head-turner for those day-time summer parties.
Kriti Sanon in a Monisha Jaisingh floral saree
Going with a bolder print, Kirti Sanon donned a bright orange, pre-draped floral printed summer saree by Monisha Jaisingh, with a pair of gold kolhapuri chappals and chandbalis to round off her look.
Kareena Kapoor Khan In a custom Pichika saree
Leaving cottons and chiffons behind, Kareena Kapoor Khan looked sprightly and refreshing in a custom-made organza saree from Pichika. The sheerness and lightness of the fabric made it perfect for the summer season. She styled the pastel, hand painted saree with a one-shoulder blouse.
Rakul Preet in a monotone Shehlaa Khan saree
Keeping her look monotone, Rakul Preet looked ethereal in a lavender (which btw, is a colour trend for 2020) summer saree from Shehlaa Khan. The saree has a very easy drape, with no complicated pleats and a halter neck blouse. If you have a cocktail party to attend this season, a summer saree like this one should come handy!
Vidya Balan in Half Full | Curve
One Bollywood actress whose style is synonymous with sarees is Vidya Balan. the actress is the embodiment of the fact that nothing, hugs and flatters the Indian curves better than a saree. For a promotional look of her’s she wore a navy linen saree, that had a bold, floral hand block print on it, and styled it with a cotton blouse. There is no denying, that there is nothing more breathable than light-weight linen to beat the summer humidity.
So this summer season, as the sun soars, keep it light in a trendy summer saree.
