Fashion has its ways of taking one hit trend and getting creative with it. Just like how the hit Bardot neckline, also popularly known as an off-the-shoulder neckline, transcended to become a one-shoulder neckline is now doing the rounds as a square neckline. Another trend, that has been around for a while is paper bag waists. Fashion geniuses around the world, have now taken this trend from the waist and put it in the hem and have now given you paper bag hems! Yes, you read that right, summer 2020 is all about having a gathered paper bag effect on not the waist, but the hem of your jeans and trousers instead.
Like all good things in life, an easy way to try this trend is to DIY it. Fashion influencers and celebrities have rocked this trend by pairing their straight fit trousers and jeans, with lace-up heels. Instead of letting your heels hide under a baggy trouser’s leg, you can simply create the gathered effect by tying the ankle strap over the hem of your pants instead of under. The good thing is that this styling trick works with both tapered and wide hem pants. Though the gathered effect is a little less evident on a more slender pair of bottoms. If you are curious to try this trend but still unsure, a tapered hem is a good way to start.
Street style stars, Kylie Jenner, Hailey Beiber and Emily Ratajkowski have been wearing this trend as their off-duty looks. This trend became a rage after Bottega Veneta’s Resort 2020 collection came out, where they tied sandals over the trousers. And it’s been favourite ever since.
Here’s a look at how our favourite fashionistas have worn this paper bag hem trend.
Deepika Padukone‘s Statement Pants
Deepika Padukone loves her statement pants, considering they’re a permanent favourite in her party wardrobe. Take, for instance, her all-orange look, comprising of tonal sequinned jeans and a matching shirt. You can recreate that paper bag hem with your tie-ups sandals just like the actor did too.
Shraddha Kapoor’s Vinyl Look
Actress Shraddha Kapoor skipped the lace-up heel fashion hack and took a deep-dive into the trend. She wore a pair of black, vinyl joggers that have a belted detail at the hem, hence, creating the paper bag effect. She styled the look with a matching black one-shoulder crop top, white block heels and statement earrings.
Tara Sutaria Styling Basics
Letting this trend be the primary focus of her look, Tara wore her neon pink lace-up heels, over a pair of light wash blue jeans. She styled the look with a basic white, cropped, tank top. Trying this trend with basics is a no-fail styling hack that Tara worked here!
