Have you ever applied a coat of nail polish perfectly, only for it to smudge one minute after applying it? I think we’ve all been in this unfortunate situation. Going to the salon every time you need your nails painted seems a bit excessive and expensive. So what’s the solution? The genius trick I’m about to tell you! The trick to perfect nail polish application is dehydrating your nail bed. Here’s everything you need to know about it:
How Can You Dehydrate Your Nail Bed?
Firstly, you’re going to need two things, acetone/nail polish remover and a cotton ball. Using acetone or nail polish remover on your nail beds will get rid of any excess moisture on your nails. So soak the cotton ball in acetone and wipe down your nails a couple of times before your nail polish application.
How Does It Help?
Our nails beds and cuticles have a coating of natural oils. When you apply nail polish without removing the natural oils first, the nail polish won’t be able to dry properly. That’s why it’ll be more prone to smudging and peeling. Do the next time you apply nail polish, don’t forget to dehydrate your nails first and then go ahead with the nail polish application.
MM Pro Tip: Restore the moisture back to your fingertips after your nail polish dries. Use a nourishing cuticle oil on your fingertips to hydrate them and you’re done!
