When I think of unconventional actresses in Bollywood the first name that pops up in my head is Taapsee Pannu. Isn’t she brilliant? She will soon be seen in her upcoming film, Thappad, and I can’t wait to watch her on-screen in a hard-hitting role yet again. She has been in the limelight lately due to her movie promotions but what I have been obsessing over are the amazing outfits she has been sporting. Her stylist, Devki B has been doing a fantastic job at styling her. And, you know what the best part is? Devki has been repeating some elements from her outfits and pairing it with others to create a whole new look.
That’s a very smart move, especially for hectic events like promotions, meetings, etc that require running around from one place to another. Furthermore, all of us can take some tips on reusing clothes from Taapsee and Devki. After all, it’s not a fashion sin to repeat what you wear, unless it’s your choice. But for now, take a look at how Taapsee pulls off each look like a pro!
1. Repurposing a kurta
Look 1
Taapsee wore a set of co-ords from Amrich and pairs them with simple earrings from Minerali and a pair of black block heels. What really added that oomph factor to the whole look is the thick waist belt. Don’t you think so too?
Look 2
For her second look, Taapsee ditched the OTT flared pants and wore the Amrich kurta like a dress. The addition of a classic blazer with the same belt around it made this outfit wearable for a formal occasion in one quick move.
2. Repeating a cropped jacket
Look 1
Taapsee donned a set of stripes from Amrich and broke the print with a different textured cropped jacket. Take notes on this great pairing as it shows you how to ace the print on print trend by choosing prints of similar tones. She broke the monotony of her outfit with a beautiful neckpiece from My Motifs. Her high bun with a nude lip and a winged eyeliner completed the look.

For the next look, Taapsee pairs the same jacket with separates from her own closet. Here’s a tip on how you can style a white shirt. I’m usually quite skeptical of pairing a long, white shirt with a knee-length denim skirt but thanks to this look, I now can take some inspo for my next look. I personally like the touch of that slim beige belt cinched over the waist as it provides shape to the whole look. She also swapped her nude stilettos from the previous look with a pair of white ones.
3. Reusing a crop top as a blouse
Look 1
I love basics and this look resonates with my personal sense of style the most. How cute does this Kanelle red crop top look with a front knot and bell sleeves? She paired them with high-waisted, bootcut jeans from Mango and heels. She also matched her lip shade with the colour of her top and accessorised with pearl drop earrings. The key takeaway from this look—less is more, always.
Look 2
Taapsee wore a saree and repurposed her crop top as a blouse for it. She let go of the heels and wore it with flats, thereby giving priority to her comfort. But TBH, I would do the same. I can’t wear heels with a saree because of my fear of tripping and falling flat on my face LOL. Do any of you feel me? This time, she leaves her hair open and keeps her makeup the same.
I also asked Devki about her thoughts on styling Taapsee and here’s what she had to say,
Anyone that followed my work for Taapsee over the years would notice that we have always chosen themes for all her promotions. The reason being we both wanted something more than just dressing up to be the bottom line of all our looks. We chose to repurpose our looks this time because it’s about time we acknowledge the issue of fashion waste. And what better medium than the one that influences our population the most, Bollywood.
Isn’t that amazing? I hope y’all have got some ideas on reusing and upcycling outfits. I certainly did. Which look did you like the most? Let me know in the comments below.
