Everyone who knows me well knows that I am a sucker for music festivals. So, when I heard that Vh1 Supersonic was coming to town, I knew I had to go! The lineup was excellent— I mean, Divine, Diplo, and Prateek Kuhad all under one roof? Sign me up! The multi-genre festival took place over the course of 3 days (7th to 9th February 2020) and had multiple stages, splendid graffiti and artwork, and some mouthwatering food. It was such an impactful festival, I had to pen down my experience for you all!
The Music Festival
With six stages holding simultaneous acts, there was something for every kind of music lover. If one stage had an artist performing reggae, another one displayed the soft tunes of Prateek Kuhad. Some of the stages were Flying Fortress, Live Arena and BudXAwakenings. Flying Fortress was such a highlight! The design was that of a carnival, and so on point—vibrant and grand. It also hosted some of the main acts such as Diplo and Machine Gun Kelly. There was also an on-campus Socials stage for all those who preferred a bar kind of vibe. The event was filled with happiness, good music, and warm souled peeps. Despite being a massively jam-packed venue the electricity was pulsating through each one of us! And this addicting rush uncannily and harmoniously united all of us festival-goers.
I was pumped to dance to the tunes of Divine’s Mere Gully Mein, post which I checked out Prateek Kuhad as well! On Saturday, along with the other talented artists, I was excited to see Diplo’s performance (when he waved the Indian flag, with a backdrop of insanely trippy graphics it gave me literal goosebumps).
Super Street
Super Street was a boho-chic space for all the shopaholics at the festival. With numerous stalls by designers, there was a wide array of items to purchase. Ranging from festive floral headbands, jewellery, trinkets, custom-made shoes, graphic t-shirts, jackets, you name it, they had it! There was even a stall for anti-hangover shots (much-needed, tbh)! Such a cool walkway around the stalls with subtly toned drapes and fairy lights to set a relaxed mood amidst the crowd and music. Here are some of the designers that happily showcased their creations: @alicesbohocloset, @fitoorshop, @foret.store, @jacketjunkiie, @maniraabymanisha, @moochwala, @orangetribestore, @rosho.footwear and @zi.by.zeanne.
Food & Drinks
Music festivals and alcohol, that’s one combination everyone loves. So, of course, Vh1 Supersonic took care of that and how! There were multiple bars where you could buy the drink of your choice. From Gin and Vodka for the hardos to energy drinks for those taking it lightly, they had it all. A thoughtful element at the music festival were reusable cups. Pretty cool to have a personal, refillable cup that had a clasp to ease carrying it around. I put it around my belt loop, which manifested itself as a cool festive accessory as well! Less litter and more eco-friendly. One of my top picks were the food stalls and trucks which served a wide variety of cuisines ranging from Indian, Chinese, Italian, finger foods and absolutely delish desserts. Moreover, they had perfect little cute canopies that acted as a quaint setting to have dinner and that really set the mood, TBH.
Art, Graffiti And The Vibe
The graffiti at Vh1 Supersonic was absolutely breathtaking! These also acted as the perfect photo op for all of us looking to spice up our Instagram feeds. There was also a separate art space for artists to showcase and sell their work. People strolled through here in their free time, in between acts, exchanging business cards. Moreover, there were also many brands that put up photo installations in order to interact with their audience. For example, American Tourister suitcases doubled up as charger stations, Superdry had a PlayStation area where gamers could prove their expertise! On a separate note, there was also a tribute to Kobe Bryant at one point which I found extremely heartwarming. Almost 5k people stood in silence for that moment as some of Kobe’s career highlights flashed on the huge screen at the main Flying Fortress stage.
This festival had to be one for the books! I am so glad I got to experience it with my girl squad! If you were there, what part was your favourite?
