Lakme Fashion Week Summer/Resort 2020 (LFWSR ’20) begins today. Before the beginning of #5DaysOfFashion, there is always an opening show that takes place the previous day. I got the chance to witness this grand opening and I was so happy I did. Reliance Trends opened the show with the celebration of LFW‘s Gen Next alumni who have been a part of the journey over the course of 20 years. It was a way of honouring the work of 31 talented designers from the industry. Isn’t that amazing? The cherry on top was when Bollywood stars Janhvi Kapoor and Vicky Kaushal enthralled everyone with their graceful entry. Here’s everything I loved from the opening show.
1. Janvhi Kapoor In Rahul Mishra
No kidding, guys. Everybody’s jaws dropped when Janhvi entered. She looked so mesmerising wearing a Rahul Mishra embroidered, tulle gown.
2. Vicky Kaushal In Kunal Rawal
What’s better than one showstopper? Two, of course! Vicky looked super dapper in an all-black ensemble from Kunal Rawal. It consisted of an asymmetric black, heavily textured, button-less, sherwani, over a black and white chevron kurta paired with fitted pants.
3. Each Designer’s Look At Lakmé Fashion Week SR ’20
The show presented the work of 31 designers who each reinvented the most popular looks from their debut collections and showcased them in a contemporary style. Gowns, pantsuits, handcrafted silhouettes, immense detailing, sharp tailoring and massive headgear were seen here. There also was a plethora of creativity in each piece and every designer’s signature style stood out. Some of the designers who presented their looks were—Rahul Mishra, Swapnil Shinde, Nida Mahmood, Nachiket Barve, Kunal Rawal, Nitin Bal Chauhan, Rimzim Dadu, Anuj Sharma, Aneeth Arora, Anand Bhushan, Paromita Banerjee, Masaba Gupta, Amalraj Sengupta, Ruchika Sachdeva, Nikhil Thampi, Archana Rao, Yogesh Chaudhary, Shikha Grover & Vinita Adhikari, Farah Sanjana, Sneha Arora, Ragini Ahuja, Sreejith Jeevan, Ujjawal Dubey, Anuj Bhutani, Dhruv Kapoor, Alan Alexander, Kanika Goyal, Kriti Tula, Ajay Kumar, Siddhartha Bansal and Sohaya Misra.
4. The Presentation And Experience
Overall, I enjoyed the whole experience of watching the show, which was set in a new space called the Aletier. It had a circular seating arrangement with visual-aid of all the elements of nature being projected on the walls. I guess that is why the theme for this season is Better In 3D. What also added life to the whole show was the drum beats that played when each model walked out.
LFWSR20 opened with such a bang and I can’t wait to see the rest of it. I’m quite excited! Are you? Let me know in the comments below.
