Known for his dark and gritty storytelling, Anurag Kashyap has a big hand in bringing what we used to call indie films to the forefront of Hindi cinema. Thanks to films like Gangs Of Wasseypur 1 and 2 that such movies are also considered mainstream. In a recent interview with Hindustan Times, he opened up about how he is going through a mid-life crisis.
Talking about it, he revealed:
I am reaching mid-life now and the crisis has kicked in big time. It has started reflecting in my work, my stories and the choice of things that I am trying to do. Now, I think I am getting more condense and complex. But there is also simplifying the complexity — the ideas are complex, but I am able to simplify them. Earlier, I wouldn’t care about this.
He also talked about how he has grown up over the years to understand the importance of box office numbers. But he mentioned that he would never want to dumb it down to reach the maximum numbers but would like to reach out to enough to sustain himself.
He also talked about how regional cinema have changed so much for the Indian movie business and said Malayalam film directors like Geethu Mohandas, Ashiq Abu, Rajeev Ravi and many others who are way more brave with their films than Bollywood filmmakers.
