Imtiaz Ali‘s Love Aaj Kal trailer has been creating waves on the internet since the day it released. Starring the much-talked-about pair — Sara Ali Khan and Kartik Aaryan — this is the second instalment of the film. Given it is the second innings, we assumed it would be called Love Aaj Kal 2. We had previously also mentioned how the film was to be called Aaj Kal. But seems like Imtiaz thought it would be best to retain the original title because he felt like it was a film that could become a franchise.
In an article in KoiMoi, Imtiaz Ali opened up about his decision to retain the title of the film and says:
I feel this is a franchisable idea. I have made two films with the same title because after ten years, the basis on which I made the earlier film has changed. I am getting the opportunity to say it in a newer way.
Talking about making this a franchise, he shares:
If we think we can maybe take it ahead in the future after a few years, if the process of the relationship (has evolved) and if there is something new to tell, a new story, then we will try to say it. The relationship that now happens is different from what it used to be. So Love Aaj Kal comes. Things are fast-moving. But the reason why a boy and girl come together hasn’t changed.
Well, we are all for this idea and would love to see him weave many more modern tales of love in the future.
Love Aaj Kal also stars Randeep Hooda and is all set to release on the 14th of February.
