Web shows today have become all about exploring impactful and meaningful stories and it is fast becoming one of the major forms of content we are consuming as an audience, don’t you think so? In the recent past, we have loved shows based on gang wars like Sacred Games and real, slice-of-life drama like Lust Stories. Even ones based on the lives of political personalities like Subhash Chandra Bose, played by Rajkummar Rao was received so well because such shows give us a peek into what went on behind the politics and the public. We just came across another similar web series that has gotten us intrigued.

Titled Queen, we see South-Indian actress Ramya Krishnan make her digital debut with this MX Player series. Now, the reason we are super intrigued is because of its gripping premise of a once very famous actress foraying into politics and her journey through it all. But it also gives us major hints of it being based on the life and times of one of the most popular female politicians we have seen — the late J Jayalalitha. While the makers don’t claim it to be a biopic on her, it is not easy to ignore the parallels that can be drawn between the show’s premise and the life of the politician.

If we look at the trailer of the show, one such instance that starkly stands out is the scene where Ramya Krishnan’s character is seen giving an interview, and the setting largely reminds us of Jayalalitha’s interview with Simi Garewal.

Have a look at these two stills:

This specific interview of the late politician with Simi went on to become iconic as it saw her being her most unguarded self. Even the casting for Simi on the show, played by Lilette Dubey, is done to perfection!

So, it is only natural after watching the trailer and these stills that we feel this Ramya Krishnan starrer is inspired by true events and the life of Jayalalitha.

The show is all set to start streaming from the 14th of December, and we can’t wait to watch this story unfold.
