Brushing your hair seems like a routine task that you don’t have to think about twice, right? Wrong! There are actually quite a few things you can do wrong while brushing your hair. Besides brushing aggressively the number one mistake you’re probably making is not using a wooden hairbrush! The thought about using a wooden brush probably never must have crossed your mind because for years we’ve been told that there’s nothing wrong with using an artificial hairbrush (made with plastic, nylon or rubber). However, that’s far from the truth. A generic plastic brush or comb can actually do a lot of damage to your hair. If you’re not yet convinced then have a look at the cons of using an artificial hairbrush:
- Since these generic hair brushes are usually made from nylon, plastic or other similar materials, they can damage the cuticles of your hair and eventually cause hair fall.
- If you have thin hair then you should definitely stay away from artificial hairbrushes, since the bristles can be very harsh on your strands.
- The bristles of these brushes can irritate your scalp.
- They don’t work very well at distributing the natural oils of your scalp, hence your roots tend to look greasy over time.
If that long list of disadvantages of artificial hairbrushes did not convince you to make the switch, then have a look at the benefits of using a wooden hairbrush:
1. Distributes Natural Oils
Your scalp secretes natural oils that keep your hair soft and shiny. However, if you don’t brush your hair then these oils won’t get distributed and the roots of your hair will look greasy and clumpy. An artificial hairbrush will not do a good job at distributing these natural oils. A wooden hairbrush, however, would distribute these oils evenly and more efficiently. Hence, essentially helping you condition your hair every time you brush it.
2. Anti-Static
Unlike artificial hairbrushes, wooden hairbrushes don’t produce any static. Hence, they prevent your hair from getting frizzy. Another benefit to using wooden hairbrushes is that they also help get rid of the current static in your hair.
3. Massages Scalp
The bristles of a wooden hairbrush help massage your scalp which in turn improves your blood circulation in your scalp. Hence, using a wooden hairbrush is like getting a mini massage which will help you relax and de-stress.
4. Faster Hair Growth
Since using a wooden hairbrush improves your blood circulation it brings essential nutrients to the hair follicles and stimulates it, which in turn helps with hair growth. Hence, using a wooden hairbrush regularly will help you grow your hair faster.
5. More Sustainable
Most wooden hairbrushes are made with bamboo, which is a biodegradable and sustainable resource. Hence, you’ll be making your beauty routine more sustainable and eco-friendly.
