In the day and age of the internet, body shaming and trolling has become a part and parcel of life on social media, unfortunately. Whether it’s about being overweight, skinny, dark-skinned or fair-skinned even, there’s always something they’ll pick to ridicule. This is especially true of celebrities who are trolled for the smallest of things every single day. Selena Gomez recently opened up on how she was trolled for her body while she was battling Lupus.
Selena was on an episode of her friend, Raquelle Stevens‘ show ‘Giving Back Generation‘, which is a vodcast (or a video podcast). She spoke about how she suffers from the autoimmune disease, Lupus, that led to her weight fluctuations.
Speaking about it, she said:
I experienced (body shaming) with my weight fluctuation for the first time. I have lupus and deal with kidney issues and high blood pressure, so I deal with a lot of health issues, and for me that’s when I really started noticing more of the body image stuff.
This, of course, affected her mental health and she says that it “messed her up a bit”. That’s why the 27-year-old singer decided to take a break from social media. Even though she is back now, she says she doesn’t believe in posting everything on the platform for all to see.
She elaborates:
I’m very happy with living my life and being present. Because that’s it. Similar to me posting a photo and walking away; for me that’s it. I will do a red carpet, I will do whatever; I don’t need to see it; I participated; I felt wonderful and that’s where the extent of it is. I don’t care to expose myself to everyone and hear what they have to say.
You go, girl! We wish this strong and beautiful girl great health always.
Selena recently came out with two singles, ‘Lose You To Love Me‘ and ‘Look At Her Now‘, from her upcoming album and they are already topping the charts. We cannot wait to hear all her songs from the album!
