A few months ago, we told you about the Roadies contestant, Tejdeep Gill, who was gearing up to make his Bollywood debut. Tejdeep’s stint in Roadies was a successful one as he was a hit with the judges and the audiences. Now, he is finally taking the next step and is all set to star in the film, Gunjan Saxena – The Kargil Girl.
Tejdeep is all set to play the role of flight lieutenant Harvinder Singh a.k.a Harry. Talking about his character, the actor explains that Harry is a Punjabi munda who can be serious when he needs to be, but is a jolly-good fellow at heart.
He says:
My character, Harry, is a fun-loving, Punjabi munda in the Indian AirForce Academy. A no-nonsense guy when it comes to serious tasks for the country, he is strong-headed yet jolly. I was a hockey player during school and college, and have always been patriotic at heart. So I have looked forward to doing roles around the Indian Army or AirForce, and getting this one was a dream come true.
About looking the part for the role, Tejdeep says that it was a great feeling to wear the uniform and develop that physique to suit an Airforce officer’s role. He recalls an incident wherein people assumed they were actual officers in the forces.
Narrating one such incident, he says:
There was an unexpected incident where my co-stars and I were celebrating right before the last day of shoot at a cafe in Lucknow. A few people there literally reached out to us and said, “Are you guys from the Army or the AirForce? Huge respect to guys for serving the nation.” It was such a proud feeling that hit us all! Even though we were just actors, all our looks were so convincing even while we were not in uniform that people around actually thought we were from the Forces.

Adding to it, he also recalls how Pankaj Tripathi reacted to his look in the film. Mr Tripathi plays the role of the protagonist Janhvi Kapoor‘s father in the film. So, when Tejdeep first met Pankaj Ji on set, he apparently said, “Arey bhai, inko army se laaye ho kya shoot ke liye?”. And that for him was a great confidence boost for his role.
Gunjan Saxena – The Kargil Girl is based on the extraordinary story of Gunjan Saxena, who was the first woman to fly in the combat zone during the Kargil War in 1999. Janhvi Kapoor is all set to essay Gunjan’s role, whereas Pankaj Tripathi and Angad Bedi are set to play her father and brother respectively. We cannot wait to see Tejdeep and the entire cast in this film!
