#FridaysForFuture: School Students Around The World Strike Against Climate Change

Pooja Maheshwary

Today, and on September 27, in India and in 130 other countries, school students are going on strike to bring attention to an important issue: climate change. The movement called Fridays For Future was started by 16-year-old Swedish environmental activist Greta Thunberg to demand more aggressive action from governments and the international community.

Around 4,685 events have been planned around the world, making it one of the largest environmental protests in history. In India, young people are leading strikes from school and work in various cities, including Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Kochi, Kozhikode and Allahabad among others.

Here’s a video by #FridaysForFuture India that stresses the important need of the hour.

The Global Climate Strikes are coincidentally scheduled before the United Nations Climate Action Summit in New York on September 23. Hosted by UN Secretary-General, António Guterres, the summit would have countries come together to boost the implementation of the Paris Climate Agreement of 2015.
