Deepika Padukone is one of the top actresses in Bollywood today. But did you all know that as a teenager, she has played badminton in national level championships? We all also know that her father, Prakash Padukone, is a former badminton player and was ranked World No. 1 in 1980. So the actress definitely understands the life of a sportsperson. But she feels that their family is not given enough credit. And that’s one of the major reasons for her signing ’83.
Deepika will be essaying the role of Kapil Dev‘s wife, Romi Dev in the film based on team India’s first cricket World Cup win. During a media interacting at IIFA, she spoke about the reason behind signing the Kabir Khan directorial.
She said:
Kabir thought of me for the film. It’s a very small role but a very special role because I feel like the role of a spouse or family is not always given enough credit.
She added:
When you look at athletes and when they win and perform on an international stage and platform, the family gets very little recognition. Keeping that in mind I wanted to do the film.
In June this year, Deepika had joined Ranveer Singh in London Glasgow, Scotland for the shoot of the film. Ranveer is playing the role of Kapil Dev, the then captain of the team. They had shared some adorable posts from the sets of ’83. The sports drama will be releasing in April 2020.
