Procrastinating may seem easy, but it requires real hard work. Take my case, for instance. I have procrastinated writing this blog for three days now. And believe me, it wasn’t easy the lengths I’ve gone to avoid writing. I worked on other unimportant tasks, ordered a lot of food, ate it all very patiently, and even took breaks to see a bat hanging off a tree outside our office window.
To those who find it difficult to procrastinate efficiently at work, worry not. I’ve compiled a list of things you can do, to make this a smooth and fun experience! Read on to know how you can waste your time more efficiently at work.
1. Practice your signature.
One day you could be famous. You may want to be well-prepared in case you need to hand out autographs.
2. Start a debate.
Introduce a controversial topic. For example: Is veg. biryani, biryani or pulav? Then sit back and watch people go nuts discussing it.
3. Share a few inspirational quotes on Instagram.
‘A candle loses nothing by lighting another candle.’ ‘Motivation comes from working on things we care about.’ Inspire your followers with similar quotes.
4. Prank a colleague.
Take inspo from The Office, if you will. You could put your colleague’s stapler in Jell-O or even impersonate them. Easy way to also get your laughs while procrastinating.
5. Share your favourite Whatsapp forwards.
Do you know those people who share husband-wife jokes, life-lessons and ‘Good morning’ messages on Whatsapp? You could be one of them too. Just join a few groups beforehand for some good content!
6. Clear your inbox.
Okay, I’ll give you this, this is a very boring task. And much too productive. To qualify it as procrastination though, you could spam your colleagues with some forwards!
7. Write a limerick.
Let the creative juices flow. Create something you’re proud of. Print it out and frame it on your wall. ‘Roses are red, violets are blue. You may not know it, but cows go moo.’—Here, I just made one!
8. Practice a new walk.
Don’t do boring. Mix it up. Get a new walk. Stride around your office, and flaunt it!
9. Create a playlist for your next party.
So, you live with your parents and can’t really throw parties? NBD. Keep a playlist ready anyway. You can never be too prepared.
10. Eat food.
You could easily spend half an hour choosing what food to order. And then another half hour waiting patiently for it with chants of, ‘Gawd, I’m so hungry!’ Another hour to eat it, and voilà, you’re on your way to becoming a pro at procrastination.
11. Work on creating a secret handshake.
The more complicated, the better the handshake is. Then teach your colleagues how to do it too! Bonus tip: First thing at work, do your new walk and follow it up with sharing your secret handshake.
12. Hold your breath.
A handy party trick. See how long you can hold your breath. Create a record. Then spend a little time each day trying to beat it.
13. Practice an accent.
An accent comes in handy when looking to impress your next date. Or not. It depends on how well you’ve practiced.
14. Change your desktop wallpaper.
It can be tiring to see the same old wallpaper on your desktop day in and day out. Spend a few minutes each week choosing the next wallpaper.
