Any curly-haired girl will tell you that her hair is hard work—not to mention, it has a mind of its own! One day your ringlets can look amazing and curly, the next, you can look like Cruella de Vil (minus the black and white). But not all curly is the same… There are plenty of textures and types of curls that you can come across. And each one of these require a completely different set of products and styling techniques.
That being said, we have 3 real, curly-haired girls that will tell you about their struggle with accepting their curly hair. And how they now rock it every-single-day—with the help of some products, of course!
Rashmi Daryanani
After years and years of chemically straightening my hair or ironing it, I decided enough was enough and thought to give my natural hair a try! I’d tried to rock my curls in the past, but nothing seemed to work… this time though I made sure to do my research and find a system that works for me, and overall I’m quite happy.
Here’s what I do after I shampoo and condition and it’s been a game-changer for me:
After conditioning, I apply hair gel (I use regular ol’ Set Wet) very liberally to my hair. You probably need more than you think you need, BTW. This ensures that as my hair dries, my curls don’t open up and become a big ball of frizz—IMHO, the best step I’ve done. So in case you’ve been apprehensive about trying hair gel, I’d say give it a try. And don’t worry about that crunchy or wet look… Once your hair has dried considerably, you can “scrunch out the crunch”—basically, scrunch your hair and all the the crunchy gel bits will break off.And that’s pretty much it. I avoid using a towel on my hair or playing with it too much as it dries (don’t want to disrupt the curl pattern or create too much friction).

I always felt that my natural hair wasn’t the most attractive. From the curly baby hair to the frizzy, messy riglets at the bottom and the thick texture, I was only looking for way to hide these features. But after years of blow-drying and ironing I relaised that not only will I loose a lot of hair with the tugging, but my texture would become brittle and dry. And since my hair is of sufficient lenght, I’ve decided to leave it curly with my most fave go-to curl cream I discovered on the Instagram!
What I’ve been doing now:
I religiously oil my hair with really any coconut or argan oil before I wash my hair. Either I leave it overnight or apply it a couple of hours before I head for a shower. Post shower I would only apply serum from the mid-lenght to the ends of my hair but ever since I discovered Briogeo’s Curl Creme, I feel in love. It’s safe to say that what they say about gels and creams aren’t all that true. With this one my hair doesn’t feel crunchy or hard. It simply defined and enhances my curls. So now I apply my MoroccanOil treatment serum and then take a coin sized amount, apply it from my mid-lenghts to the end and then start scrunching the hair to bring out the best of my curls!

My hair texture is somewhere between wavy and curly. Call me crazy, but my hair has a mind of its own. On some days it has the perfect amount of volume and curl definition and on some days it makes me look like I’m Hagrid from Harry Potter.
It took me years to figure out what works for my hair and how I can tame it. After a lot of trial and error, I found these products and tricks I learnt on the way:
- Sebamed Anti-Dry Revitalizing Shampoo: It’s a gentle cleansing shampoo that doesn’t dry out my hair
- Coconut oil: I make sure that I oil my hair twice a week, especially since I’ve coloured my hair so that it doesn’t become dry.
- Wooden Wide-Tooth Comb: I only use this comb for detangling since it doesn’t make my hair frizzy.
Here are some of the products we use:
Briogeo Curl Charisma Leave-In Defining Creme
Sebamed Anti-Dry Revitalizing-Shampoo
Set Wet, Vertical Hold Gel
