If you have oily skin, only then can you understand the gruelling struggle of dealing with the “shine”. You know when it’s around mid-day and your forehead starts to look like someone has poured a bottle of oil on it? That’s the “shine” I am talking about. Even though dewy skin is a major trend right now, there’s a thin line between looking dewy and oily for those of us with oily skin. No matter how many times a day you wash your face or how many ever blotting papers you use, it seems almost impossible to get rid of the “shine”. Fortunately for you, after copious amounts of research and trial and error later, I have found 4 simple ways for you to make your skin less oily for good:
1. Double Cleanse:
As someone with acne-prone and oily skin, I cringed at the idea of oil cleansing. However after I tried it, I have to say that it has significantly changed my skin. Double cleansing is a great way to thoroughly clean your skin without drying it out. Using an oil cleanser is actually great for controlling your skin’s sebum production. An oil cleanser will get rid of the oil-based impurities in your skin without stripping your skin off its natural oils. Follow it up with a gentle water-based foam cleanser and you’ve got yourself clean and balanced skin.
2. Go Alcohol-Free:
As a teenager, I was under the impression that it was a good idea to use harsh cleansers (that contained ingredients like isopropyl alcohol) to strip my skin off from its natural oils. This ignorant decision of mine actually led my skin to be more oily. Since I didn’t let the natural oils of my skin do its thing, my skin retaliated and produced more oil, which of course led to breakouts. That’s the problem with skincare products that contain alcohol. That’s the problem with alcohol-based skincare products, they may make your skin feel less oily at first but after a few hours, your skin will get oilier. Hence, you should stick to products that are gentle and don’t contain harsh chemicals.
3. Don’t Skip The Moisturiser:
Skipping moisturiser because you think that your skin has enough moisture as it is, is a bad idea. People tend to think that using a moisturiser will make their oily skin even more oily, but let me tell you that is not the case! Ever since I’ve started using a light-weight gel moisturiser I’ve noticed that my skin is balanced instead of oily. Trust me, this step is a game changer!
4. Use A Mud Mask:
Once or twice a week, treat your skin to a good mud mask to thoroughly clean out your pores. Mud masks are great for oily skin since they help control your skin’s oil production, draw out impurities and gently exfoliate your skin. Hence, if you have oily skin skip the sheet mask and go for a mud mask instead.
